I just got scammed out of a Macbook Pro - Tando - Jun 14, 2021

I gave the guy the Macbook pro, he e-transferred me $2000 and my account got blocked.

I had to speak with a bank manager and they said the e-transfer was FAKE. I said how the f can an e-transfer be fake, I thought your systems were secure?

They said it was a fraudulent e-transfer, and that I'M RESPONSIBLE since I accepted a fraudulent e-transfer. So now I basically can only deposit small amounts into my account, ridiculous.

They treated me as if I was the f-ster, when I was the victim.

Sucks to be in that position man. Can you not go and file a complaint to the police?

Nah I don't really want to get involved I should've never dealt with the transaction like how I did, but it's alright I don't really care for the money anyways just wanted to get rid of it.

Still fkn annoying I could've gave that to someone in need.

True. Someone in need of it could have utilised it better. Don’t worry, Karma always gets back to such assholes.

Why wouldn't you file a police report against this person? 2k isn't junk change.

Are you able to track the laptop or did you bother to write down the MAC address or S/N?

I highly doubt this person will have it in their possession long enough for that to even make a difference tbh.

Frustrating af though. I always try to take responsibility, but how on earth was I supposed to know that people could do that?

I heard a story of this kid buying a stolen laptop, he bought it off some guy from Craigslist and the police showed up at his house and took it back.

If you file a police report and provide the S/N and Mac address then for example pawn shops will check this information to see if it comes back stolen.

This is the best way to do it, also make sure you know how to spot a fake bill.

I have sold quite a few things online and I always tell them cash only. No PayPal, no Venmo, no checks.

When it comes to accepting money for an item over $500 I personally wouldn't ever accept e-transfer or Zelle. I'd compare it to selling your Macbook for 2k PayPal from a stranger. Sorry to hear OP.
