Renovation "up to code"? - shakur123 - Jul 1, 2021 Not a US citizen here, i cant find an answer to this and its bugging me. I watch a lot of renovation shows and always heard about the "up to code" adjustments. One question, for example if you do renovation on your bathroom and your garage is not up to code, do you need to adress the garage first or how the "code" works? RE: Renovation "up to code"? - Charger - Jul 1, 2021 Code refers to building regulations set by the (normally city/local) government. This can range from weight requirements to maximum height for a step. RE: Renovation "up to code"? - AiDenti - Jul 1, 2021 Like charger said, it's all stuff that the city/county determines for safety reasons. The gov has a list of requirements for everything that has to do with safety in buildings. Some of them are commercial, some are residential. Sometimes they're enforced by the fire marshal, sometimes the city inspector, sometimes health inspector. Code is just a catch all meaning for the laws you have to follow when managing a building. Are the dimensions of the room set up properly and the walls built properly. Is piping to shallow in the wall things like this. Here is a good article about it if you want to read on it RE: Renovation "up to code"? - scam. - Jul 1, 2021 You can remodel your bathroom if your garage isn’t to code. You won’t even need consent to do it. Some of the building regulations are stupid. You could have a skylight 10cm in the wrong position and have it not be to code and have to reframe it. It’ll likely only be an issue when it comes time to sell your house. If you’re doing major renovations you’ll need consent and the builders will deal with everything inspection related. Builders don’t get paid a lot for being able to swing a hammer, they get paid a lot for knowing all the code and regulation surrounding building. You can always do it illegally and hope you don’t get caught. But again if you try sell your house and have it inspected you’ll run into trouble. The only way they’ll know really is if you’re building structures. Anything you do inside your house just go Willy nilly. (But if you’re doing it yourself build to code. It’s there for a reason) |
