Can we get rewards for referring people? - SIM-3205632 - Jul 10, 2021

I feel like the referral system has huge potential if you actually give people something for inviting their friends. There will be people trying to abuse this ofcourse but you can put an account closure on it and I doubt people will actually risk their account to get an award.

EDIT: When voting on the poll I want to change the question to "Would you refer people if you were promised rewards for it."

Introducing someone to the wonders of HF is already a great award.

There was already a byte incentive, it did nothing meaningful and only induced fake accounts. There's a reason this doesn't exist.

I can't say how effective making new accounts is to get an award like that, but it probs would take a while. 1 main issue I have with it is, who even knows that many people to invite? if the award was set at 100 or more, people would be joining through some sort of external campaign anyhow, unless you know 100 people irl well enough to get them to join

Oh there is a lot of ways to get people to join. I can DM around 10,000 people my referral link in about 15 minutes. You don't have to invite people you know personally you can run ads and stuff like that.

I feel like it's very easy to spot a fake account though is it not? You could put limitations on it aswell like only receiving the rewards when they have made around 25 posts so the accounts are not just self-made accounts.

Anyhow, I feel like this could go well or bad, i'm a bit indesisive (amazing spelling) to call this good or bad, just not sure

Even if it's not a reward a leaderboard would be cool.

Everyone who would sign up to these types of forums know HF exists already and just hasn't signed up. Using spam to get refferels should get you closed, it looks ban for the forum to be associated with spam and the whole point of refferals is to invite people you know who share the same interests. By getting refferals from spam it'll have the same affect as botting the refferals, a bunch of inactive accounts taking up storage space.

Ah I didn't think of it like that, I thought of it more as actually promoting it as a forums and not as spam but you're right.
