Reporting with byte reward/penalty - Aveling - Jul 30, 2021
My suggestion is as follows, if your report is valid and handled you would receive some bytes whereas if the report is invalid it will cost you bytes.
This suggestion will hopefully lower the amount of fake / invalid reports and encourage more members to report threads to make Hack Forums a better place.
Let me know what you guys think.
I've searched the Suggestions and Ideas board for a similar suggestion but couldn't find one.

It seems that there's very few purposefully invalid post reports occurring (based on my little experience), and a penalty could certainly scare off potentially valid reports. As for a reward, could be a neat addition.

You're basically making OMNI pay to HF staff considering the shitload of reports they're going to receive if it were to be implemented.
in my expert opinion. this will result in a barrage of reports for staff to review.
but well, OMNI has the last say into the matter.

At least most of those reports would be valid, but you have a good point. People will try anyways to report all kinds of nonsense just to get those bytes.

I have no insight in how much reports are valid or not, but since the community is pretty large I thought maybe this would be helpful.
You made a good point regarding the fact that it could scare off people, but if people actually have read the rules they would know what to report and what not to report, the Wiki has a nice page regarding that as well.
Either way it could also work just fine with rewarding on valid reports only without the penalty.

For practical reasons I don't think this is something really able to be implemented whether or not it's a good idea.
Most reports are fine. You shouldn't be penalized for reporting something you think is a violation if you reasonably believe there is a problem.
