How-to Setup XMPP + OTR (macOS) (Encrypted Instant Messaging) - isai - Nov 3, 2021 Adium keeps unencrypted logs of OTR chats by default. Go to the Adium Preferences panel, select 'General' and uncheck the box that says 'Log OTR-secured chats' to disable. OTR does not work in group chats. Let's create a new account by opening Adium and selecting the following: File, Add Account, XMPP Next, enter the desired Jabber ID + server ([email protected]) with a strong password and click register account. Enter the server of choice with the correct port. (Default port is 5222) Great, now we are registered. Next go to the Adium menu and select the following: Preferences -> Advanced -> Encryption Now it's time to generate our encryption keys. Click the Generate button next to the account name. It should now display a unique fingerprint. To enable OTR, start a new conversation with one of your contacts. Next click the open pad lock and select 'Initiate Encrypted Chat'. You've now created a new XMPP account & enabled OTR messaging on macOS. Make sure you do your research in choosing a secure server! Don't forget to follow the advice found at the top of this tutorial!
