How do restriction codes, SIM/Network/Carrier unlocking work - an1me_hacker - Nov 27, 2021

First of all, first post yay

I've been pretty frustrated because I just can't find any educational information about this subject.
  • Why is this a banned topic in many cellphone related forums? Why is there little to no information available on how this works?
  • Why are there so many websites littered in google search begging me to buy an unlock code from them? How do I do it on my own?

Honestly I feel the same. All information is very outdated/ limited. I remember seeing rsim online and they are somewhat active.

As with anything break down the problem.

What I can only assume is that the restriction code or SIM status is a BIOS protected setting that is only read/written when setting a new carrier. Even if you do a factory reset it doesn't unlock it (this depends for some phones I think for the most part this is true). Meaning you can't get it through normal means.

And the restriction code probably isn't based on IMEI, otherwise it'd be really easy to do it.

My conclusion so far is this:
  • The original carrier should be the first option if you want to unlock it fast as long as they don't charge it.
  • 3rd party unlockers can also do it but I still want to figure out how. My suspicion is that they're in kahoots with the carriers lol
  • Factory resetting or even reflashing the firmware by having it connected to your PC will not remove the carrier lock.

I have no idea where to go next and this is probably something way beyond my reach.
