Community-driven blog/news site - False King - Dec 28, 2021 So this idea popped up in my head. It's sad to see blogs aren't that much used, even though it's a great addition that took time to make. The issue might be that it feels contradicting on a forum site to have blogs. Maybe the code behind the blog can be created to use a separate, new site. HF members can still publish blogs and require moderation, but they'll be published on this stand-alone sister site. This sister site could maybe bring in extra traffic or income with ads. There's so much blog sites everywhere. They are constantly on Facebook feeds, get shared, and news push apps pick them on quite easily. This could also open up people to see the quality content from the members of HF. As the forum itself requires registration before viewing content, this might make the forums itself more appealing before joining for those doubters. This could also be expanded in like a satellite setup to appeal to different groups of interest. By choosing some kind of category or adding a certain tag, it could be published on either satellite. It could add extra value when doing so. It doesn't mean all blogs can't be accessed from HF itself. RE: Community-driven blog/news site - Charger - Dec 28, 2021 Driving traffic anywhere off site from a forum is counterintuitive and a waste. You're not in any way driving traffic off-site. People on HackForums aren't registered here for the blogs. The content won't make them follow the sister site and drop HF. It can only bring traffic to HackForums. RE: Community-driven blog/news site - False King - Dec 29, 2021 (Dec 28, 2021 07:22 PM)James Wrote: If you want to share blogs, go for it. You don't need an HF account to view them. A separate site doesn't really make much sense considering this. If you care about HF having a blog that has lots of content on and is being shared every where, you are more than welcome to create blog posts and share them. I'm aware they can be shared. I do not see how this has anything to do with the idea here. Satellite sites actually make a lot of sense if you properly look through all my arguments. Feels a bit like adding something for which the forum sections are meant? They need improvement nonetheless. I agree with what someone else put I think the blogs just need to be revamped. Keep everything on site. Please look at my posts and explain to me how this exactly is going to drive traffic off-site. Once more, take a read over ALL my arguments and reasoning, and come up with an answer, again. Feels like 90% of the people are not even completely thinking this through or are just going in some conservativism mode. It's not going to drive any content off-site. Blogs on themselves are quite contradictory on a forum, where people rather publish their content on the forums itself (which, of course, is a reasonable decision). As explained in the thread, this actually can bring people on-site. For placing comments, you could require people to have an account on HackForums to be able to do so. When people see the content, it could also lead them to sign up on the forums. By adding the satellite idea, you can also market to different audiences (a lot of people do look at a domain name), for which you might lower their initial assumptions about HackForums. Blogs, news sites, and things like that are really on the rise again. They're being pushed by quite a few applications, such as the aforementioned Google app. Think about it a bit more, instead of posting argumentless nonsense. You're just saying stuff without backing it up. How is it faster, easier, and more effective on-site? It would require more development to get it set up, but that's all there is.
