Include Rust in the C/C++ forum - MavenGradle - Mar 2, 2022 Just going to say it. The rust programming language is a rising star and it will probably be beneficial to include the Rust title somewhere on the programming forum: Coding It is the most-loved programming language of 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016 according to all the respondents on StackOverflow's developer surveys but it's also not that widely used, yet. You'll see this change in the coming years and evidence is already suggesting that it is not the same trend that Ruby had, in years past. Rust, especially when compared to Ruby, appears to want to stick around and is being used in production code today. It is, however, one of the top programming languages when it comes to cryptocurrency-related projects. ![]() * Source https://insights.stackoverflow.com/survey/2021#technology-most-loved-dreaded-and-wanted In addition, I have seen many users who are interested in the programming language, and I would be willing to post tutorials regarding the Rust programming language. The rust book is already quite good: https://doc.rust-lang.org/book/ You will most likely attract a slew of Rust developers (mostly from the cryptocurrency space) by giving the rust programming language a place on HF. Thanks for reading. RE: Include Rust in the C/C++ forum - Pikzul - Mar 2, 2022 (Mar 2, 2022 06:46 PM)xadamxk Wrote: I'm all for updating the Coding tab on HF. I think there is a great potential for it to bring in new members, which is why my group will help improve these sections. Prefix would solve it yeah! I've been looking more into rust recently. (Mar 2, 2022 07:01 PM)Pikzul Wrote: Prefix would solve it yeah! I've been looking more into rust recently. The problem with that is that it is very confusing because Rust is a language that is syntactically very different from C and C++ and indeed, also in its design and philosophy surrounding memory safety by the simple inclusion of a borrow checker. In other words: Using a Rust prefix in a C/C++ forum would be like using a php prefix in a JavaScript forum. I think part of the reason why you don't see a lot of Rust threads on HF is exactly because of this; no 'right' place to actually post it. You could group them all together, of course. C/C++/Rust/Go but we're currently in the age of WebAssembly which means that these languages that are traditionally seen as low-level are now becoming universally available, even in web browsers. Indeed, you can compile C++ code to WASM and run it in a browser in order to achieve near-native performance for your (web) application. So one could even post C++ code inside the website construction forum, and it will technically be correct (but quite possibly against the 'human'-defined rules of HF, even though the code would only be useful inside a browser that is being used to construct a website): Website Construction However.. if a prefix is all we can get, I'll happily take it, just so the Rust language can have its place on HF but know that it would be technically incorrect to place it under a forum that is named after C and C++. RE: Include Rust in the C/C++ forum - Sky - Mar 3, 2022 Why not just use the general C and C++ section? Edit: Saw [mention=1306528] 's comment. I like that idea. RE: Include Rust in the C/C++ forum - MavenGradle - Mar 16, 2022 Even outlaw is doing Rust in HF's convo these days! RE: Include Rust in the C/C++ forum - outlaw - Mar 16, 2022 https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=6197660 We deffo need a RUST sub forum :) RE: Include Rust in the C/C++ forum - Omniscient - Mar 16, 2022 Yeah, I got some notes down for some potential HF changes I'm considering. RE: Include Rust in the C/C++ forum - DashPHP - Mar 16, 2022 I think when Omni does his HF changes in the programming section, it should include the languages that now work with blockchain technology. Haskel, Solidity, Rust... Those are what I believe will be the top languages in this space. |
