I was thinking to maybe make a small feature on HF or something. I just don't think the API opens the website that far.
Maybe you didn't read the threads... The API at the moment covers read/write for posts, threads, bytes, contracts, and disputes.
What did you have in mind?

The benefit of API is that you can do normal things programmatically.
