A New Uber Eats Driver Scam? - ROI - Apr 30, 2022

I just had an odd experience with an Uber Eats order and am wondering if my instincts are right.

Basically, the driver came to my house but didn't drop off the food.

A few minutes later I check the app and the car is about 15mins away and not moving on the GPS.

I tried calling the woman but didn't get an answer.

A number was sent in the chat to call and it was an Indian man.

Something tells me it wasn't the person in the car.

He said they gave him the wrong address and asked for my phone number so I could share my location.

Assuming there was something fishy going on, what could possible have been his goal?

In other words, what could an Uber Eats driver get by not delivering besides a free meal and someone's phone # and address?

Any ideas?

I guess a free meal lol. I really don’t see the point

They may use that number to text you a URL for you to sign into a fake uber eats site. Sign in to show your location...etc. Use a account with history to scam or resell.

Interesting stuff.

My gut tells me the person was in India.

I think what Cake said makes the most sense. Maybe some sort of phishing attempt.

If it was really the driver, then I guess it's just a free meal. I work for Glovo (basically UberEats for Europe) and I know a few guys who do this shit here and then.

Other than that, if it was not the driver then it was probably an awful phishing attempt

Probably just a free meal. I got a some food once and half of my chicken breast was gone. I've eaten at that restaurant many times and I've never gotten half a chicken breast before when ordering that meal.

That seems extremely weird, I would get into contact with Uber Eats customer service directly. Report the order.

EDIT: Just noticed this was grave dug from about 3 years ago lol
