Running and lifting (knee is starting to hurt) - Blunt - May 12, 2022 So I’ve been running and lifting a couple months and now the right knee on the ride side of the knee cap is hurting really bad. I can run a few miles before it starts to feel like it difficult to bend and hurts to try. I ice and use a rolling pen and it calms the pain but always comes back. any ideas, opinions? RE: Running and lifting (knee is starting to hurt) - Komodo - May 12, 2022 Only hurts on the right side of your right knee? Most commonly that's something like an LCL tear. There's a laundry list of things it could also be, but that's the most realistic without being given any other information and you just starting working out and running again. Resting or elevating a tear will make it feel better. Once again it could be many things, but I have most commonly seen related pains from ligament tears. So if it is a tear and I go to the hospital to check it out what are my outcomes? I don’t want surgery because I wanna keep working out… RE: Running and lifting (knee is starting to hurt) - Komodo - May 12, 2022 (May 12, 2022 12:35 PM)Blunt Wrote: So if it is a tear and I go to the hospital to check it out what are my outcomes? I don’t want surgery because I wanna keep working out… Once again I am not diagnosing you, this is a possible outcome. But LCL tears treatment and or surgery depends on the category of the tear. Can be treated at home with compressing it, taking NSAIDs, Icing, elevating and resting. Constant use of an injured site will obviously not allow it to heal. Well I will highly consider this information you have provided thanks RE: Running and lifting (knee is starting to hurt) - shmatka - May 28, 2022 In my opinion and experience running is not exactly healthy.Think about it who would just want to run for long distances without any reason? It's fun but it's illogical.Maybe do sprints but don't go for marathons or stuff like this. But this is just my opinion. And don't go hard on the heavysquats in the gym. There's quite a bit of reason including reducing blood pressure, pulse, weight and a ton more. Great to keep you and shape, and amazing benefits towards your heart. Injuries happen, it's the name of the game. Back in history humans used to 'jog' for miles to hunt for food, while other animals would sprint and get tired while we would control our speed and run long distances to catch up to our meals. Additionally the word 'Marathon' derives from ancient Greece during the battle of Marathon where a soldier ran 26.2 miles to tell the tale of victory the Greeks had in a battle over the Persians. There are still many reasons to stay in shape in modern times military, police, firefighters, security, athletes, etc. I do agree sprinting is also good occasionally and at the end of a run to reduce the amount of lactic acid buildup you have, but it shouldn't be your only source of exercise. |
