Aight, very hot take, but NGE does not deserve as much hype as it does. NGE is usually known to be the anime that pushed anime more in the mainstream, but the show itself is not very good and only receives such recognition as most of its fanbase is hella depressed. These fans keep saying the show is deep, but all it really is is some depressed dude with a white shirt ruining lives. Like bro, what the heck even was the Third Impact? Just some giant Reis goofing around? Some dude becoming orange juice? Way too metaphorical for a dude who just wants to relax and watch a good show. Shinji may have been relatable to the average depressed teenager, but for the rest of the population, he is almost the epitome of an idiot.

Hmm, can't say I agree, but I do see where you're coming from. If I only watched the anime, I'd probably think less of the anime. It was an entertaining experience, the movie and anime together. At least as a community, we can come together to agree that Shinji fucking sucks.
