Something I've Been Cooking Up - sticksdev - Oct 12, 2022

Debating if I want to release this to the public, however I've made something quite cool.

I've wrote my own virtualization manger (dubbed virtd) that I use for all of my household VMs (home assistant, ect)

Here's a sample log: https://pastebin.com/RVq6tUnj

Whatcha think? Release? Sell?

Sure. Usually, common software's such as VMware, Virtual Box (ect) use something called a hypervisor. A hypervisor is sort of a "manager" in this case, so it manages things like the state of the machine, creation, deletion, ect. VMware has a super good article about hypervisors here - it can tell you more then I can.

Basically, what virtd is doing is it's piggybacking off of the hypervisor or "manager" and improving what it does by redirecting it's calls to its self. It's sort of a man in the middle for efficiency's sake; and it can improve call time, add features, ect. It's really a cool thing to tinker with.

Okay gotcha - thank you for explaining that. Essentially a back-end task manager for virtual machines. Good stuff bud.
