Thread Ratings - Omniscient - Oct 26, 2022 Should I bring back thread ratings on HF? Some may recall that these were a feature (native MyBB) that I disabled many years ago. Mainly because I don't think it added value and at times it was abused. If ratings did return it would not be Marketplace threads. Just wondering if members would like to see this comeback? RE: Thread Ratings - Zeus - Oct 26, 2022 Personally i think no they're long done now, plus easily abused. RE: Thread Ratings - Hydra - Oct 26, 2022 Don't see the need for them in every forum. Maybe incorporate thread reviews in marketplace for confirmed customers after the completion of a contract? Otherwise I can't see this applicable for anything else other than a business review. I'm with Hydra . I don't really see value in ratings themselves. I do think the ability to leave a review for contracted customers would be nice. RE: Thread Ratings - Blazin - Oct 26, 2022 I personally don't see a need for them as it was abused, as 5-10 star products would get 1 star by competitors. Plus we have the BB rating system to show good vendors and sellers with decent products. Just my opinion on it. Again, would not be used in Marketplace threads. RE: Thread Ratings - Upgrader - Oct 26, 2022 (Oct 26, 2022 06:46 PM)Pentatonix Wrote: I'm with Hydra . I don't really see value in ratings themselves. I only see a use case in marketplace for contracted customers imo RE: Thread Ratings - Blazin - Oct 26, 2022 (Oct 26, 2022 06:54 PM)Admin Wrote: Again, would not be used in Marketplace threads. Ahh sorry about that I'm running on about 3 hours of sleep. My apologies. In that case, I don't see why not. It made the threads pop a bit more and it was nice to see thread ratings. RE: Thread Ratings - Vibe - Oct 26, 2022 Unless somehow it helped with SEO seems pointless at this point, except maybe in a tutorial section? No. Gets addicting 1 starring every thread of someone I hate. RE: Thread Ratings - Biggy - Oct 26, 2022 Meh, I personally don't really see any benefits to bringing them back. Don't feel like it adds much value to the forum. I'd be against it. RE: Thread Ratings - Nostre - Oct 26, 2022 I believe it'll continuously be abused regardless of where it's implemented. RE: Thread Ratings - GenericSkid - Oct 26, 2022 As much as a metric for thread quality would be nice, making one that is objective (or at least close to being as possible) is really hard. Giving that responsibility to users is nice in theory but as others have mentioned it just takes a few asshats who dislike an OP to ruin the system. People are more likely to engage with negative feelings rather than positive ones. So reading a thread and thinking "wow that was awesome" is not as likely to yield a high rating than "lol i dont like this dude" and 0-starring regardless of content. If there were a way to post truly anonymously without account linkage that'd be less of an issue. Possibly shared post ownership among a group and then the group could maintain a series of posts? Kind of like how old groups used to make tutorials back in the day, but delegated it to their own members. Just a hypothetical, not really feasible to implement here. I just miss finding good tutorial content here, though that could also be attributed to nostalgia. |
