Mainly by posting (actual content, or useful replies, not spam threads/posts).
Can also buy bytes off of others, or if people are nice enough, they can donate you some.

As said already you get bytes by posting. If you upgrade to leet and Uber you get even more bytes when posting + you get 1k bytes when upgrading to Uber. Can't remember how much you get for the leet upgrade. 500 or something like that.
