HFCap image capture with features designed for HF - Dredd - Nov 27, 2022

I'm revisiting an old project I started making for HF years ago but never finished I'm fed up of using Gyazo so finally rebooted my old image capture software which includes some features aimed at HF.

For example when you take a screenshot in the settings you can set it to make a thumbnail and copy the BBCode so you can post it straight into your post example below.

Code

The above example is generated automatically by the application yes I know someones going to say it's pointless since HF already has a show larger image box for large images, my reasoning behind this was page speed + data usage on HF page loads.

The above example the thumbnail image is 8.94kb while the full size image is 24.59kb, all of the thumbnail sizes and drop shadows are adjustable.

If there's interest and I release this it will be released for free for all HF users to use for free without ads as my way of giving back to the community. I'm looking at adding some more custom features such as Signature overlays and image overlays for those that want custom signature image overlays over there screenshots just for aesthetics. If there are any other features you can think of please let me know.

Easy to use once you pin it to your taskbar just click the icon and select an area to capture.

Any suggestions and all feedback are welcome.

Nice project dude. Got 2 questions.

1. Why not just use Imgur? Less resources for your web hosting and trusted so it can be used outside of HF as well, would make it a multipurpose tool.
2. Are there key binds for quick capture?

How long would such things stay on the server in terms of images?

If you have such a plan for the above question, following that would be;

Do you have a plan to remove them after a certain amount of time, or keep them all long term?
Will users have the capability to choose that option?

Honestly, I was fed up with Gyazo & Lightshot as well. But then I switched to ShareX.

It has everything built in I could ask for for a screenshot app. With a hotkey it can annotate on screen, capture, upload to website and copy the direct link to image/gif/video to clipboard. All I need to do is press ctrl+v

If has lot of API integrations like imgur, dropbox etc. as well.

It has made my life easier. It also has function to shorten URLs copied to your clipboard. And once shortened, it copies to shortened url again.

Very useful, it can save you a lot of tedious work when posting blogs, tutorials or extensive threads.
Nice of you to share this with the community, I'd love to try it out👍

P.S. I would use it even if there were a lot of ads, I assume that if some code works, meets its assumptions, then its programmer should receive some form of remuneration for the work put in. It doesn't matter if it's the sale of licenses or earnings from advertising.

Very cool project you got here man, I like it a lot.

I already use ShareX for a screenshotting / capturing tool and imo there's nothing out there that rivals ShareX, not yet anyway.

Best of luck with this though, I definitely think you should keep at it in terms of development.

This is great, I think it's so awesome seeing people writing scripts and plugins for the site man. Kudos to you
