Solo BTC Miner Block Winner - Omniscient - Jan 20, 2023

We've had discussions before about solo miners winning the lottery. Looks like it happened.

That Twitter thread has some funny comments about it. Looks like a lot of people don't understand how Bitcoin mining works still.

I'm not exactly sure how ck pool works so maybe there's an important detail I'm missing, but from my understanding of cryptography, you can't just look at a block and find out how much hashpower the miner who created it controls.

Mining not my thing so I got no idea. Let's see if SUI-3183372 knows.

There's no way to view that data on-chain afaik.

With ckpool if you know who the miner is you can check their stats page to view their rates.

Looks like this was the block reward:

ckpool takes a split and the rest goes to the miner, so I believe this is the miner:
1CEmkQkgiCMx6DHSDkHi53mL8oEthCZSw

Plug that into ckpool's stats panel and you can view their hash power:

That’s insane if done with only 10TH

Also, what service is ck's "pool" doing for its customers that is valuable enough they can charge a fee for it?

Yes and I'm not sure. I was wondering similarly while looking into them.

From GPU mining perspective, if you have 2 RIGs named both "OMNI_MINER" the pool will combine the hashrate into one worker name.
