Posting Permissions for Non-Upgraded - Omniscient - Jan 24, 2023
Well, I gave it a try for about 2 months.

As of now non-upgraded members can again post threads and replies under the Hack tab and the Social tab too.
I was fed up with the scams and spammers and LQP. I've enjoyed the better quality of the site but realistically it's hurt activity. I'm glad I gave it a try though.
I also changed the minimum characters for a post to be 20 characters, previously 25.
I don't want members reporting to me LQP unless a member is spamming the forum in multiple threads. If someone just has a short post, please don't report it. A better guideline to report would be nonsense posts like "wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww". If it's English, if it's readable, then just let it be. This may get adjusted if I feel there is a problem. HF is always a changing and evolving situation. If we don't adjust with the times, we will not thrive and risk dying.
More changes to come but this one was big enough to get its own thread.

I certainly noticed both changes, higher quality posts but less acitvity overall. Gotta do what you gotta do.

I think this is a good idea hopefully for the activity of the forum, and we grow. I’ve liked all the adjustments you’ve been making recently, they are looking good Omniscient !

Already noticing more activity. I think it's about a 40% increase since this change? I could be wrong... 40% does seem a little high within the time of this thread being posted.

About a 35% increase on avg in terms of threads and especially posts according to https://hackforums.net/stats.php
New members stayed the same.

I think it's near that. But have to see a cycle of a week to really tell. Also, quality. What's that looking like?

I personally think it's looking good so far. The quality doesn't seem noticeably different IMO.

I kind of think of it this way. Sometimes a local bar gets a bit rough, the wrong crowd can becoming in regularly and starting fights. Bar owner changes the music entirely to something boring. All the bad customers get upset and leave. Two months later he changes the music back to make the regulars happy but the bad customers have already left and don't know about the change.
So basically, I'm hoping 2 months of kicking the scam spammers they have moved to other sites and maybe leave HF alone for a while.

I noticed reduced deal disputes too since the original permissions were set. Those two months were taken to clean up the mess they created.

I'd like to continue my journey as a non-upgraded boi but they upgraded my account.

In Marketplace? You should be able to do replies, just not new threads. Which forum exactly?
