some people say batch is a useful language and a great one to start off with, i say not really.
you need to use goto statements to make never ending loops, and its inconvenient.

I'd say html/css is the best to start with. It's not an actual programming language but it gives people something to dip their toes in. It's fairly simple and can be fun to mess around with.
