windows extensions? - NyQuil - Jun 13, 2023 wondering https://aerorock.co.nz/list-of-executable-file-extensions-windows/ none of them execute like the old windows, use to be able re rename to .scr and still be executable. i use to use a icon on a exe and simply change it to .scr, would keep the icon or the .scr would be built with it, other wise just wondering do any extension in windows allow a path and icon, other that a shortcut for example old rats like darkcomet use to be savable as exe and changed to .scr and execute the same, ,bat, ,scr,, pif, thou i dont think pif has icons RE: windows extensions? - Dread.Reaper - Jun 13, 2023 (Jun 13, 2023 12:41 AM)NyQuil Wrote: wondering https://aerorock.co.nz/list-of-executable-file-extensions-windows/ none of them execute like the old windows, use to be able re rename to .scr and still be executable. Yea... thats why windows changed that.🙄 Also .scr is no safer than an EXE and security software treats it accordingly. RE: windows extensions? - Toe Jam - Jun 14, 2023 Best payload filetypes now are probably .js and a vba macro in office files (docx, docm, xlsm, etc). RE: windows extensions? - Sage - Jun 14, 2023 there is the .new extension for executables tho but comes without icon you just gonna need to use some SE for it in renaming it RE: windows extensions? - Dread.Reaper - Jun 14, 2023 (Jun 14, 2023 01:46 PM)Sage Wrote: there is the .new extension for executables tho but comes without icon you just gonna need to use some SE for it in renaming it Isint that text format though? In some windows 10 versions is extension for new updates files which run the .exe but not for all versions as far I know RE: windows extensions? - Dread.Reaper - Jun 14, 2023 (Jun 14, 2023 05:09 PM)Sage Wrote: In some windows 10 versions is extension for new updates files which run the .exe but not for all versions as far I know Hmm... Far as Im aware .new is just another dumb ass text format. Dont appear to be executable as far as I can tell. But wtf do I know honestly first time I heard of this file extension. If I came across this, Id likely guess it was a piece of an update or some crap and delete it lol RE: windows extensions? - NyQuil - Jun 14, 2023 last i mess around with executables in at least windows 7 you could rename .exe, .scr, .pif, etc same as dark comet and it would still execute as a e(x)ecutable, might of changed. Just wondering. RE: windows extensions? - Dread.Reaper - Jun 15, 2023 What about .com files? I feel these are overlooked a great deal. I mean even the extension could be socially engineered to believe its a web link. |
