Option to report dead threads - Charlie Sheen - Jul 5, 2023

As the title says, there's a lot of threads that are years old that just sit there getting grave dug. Usually the member hasn't logged on in years. You see people spamming those threads with "pls send this to me". It'd be helpful if we could report those threads, and by reporting it would lock the thread automatically.

+1 to this! Great idea.

I don't think it should lock automatically unless a certain amount of time has passed in order for the OP to respond. Perhaps a special notification could be given with a countdown?

Other than that, I agree, but I just think certain threads can be considered timeless / time is irrelevant and it shouldn't be a blanket rule. If I ask you if you prefer Mac OS or Windows OS, what does it matter if that's in 2023 or 2032 and someone decides to respond and start up the debate again? Especially if that's the thread that brought them in from Google or something

I think you're overthinking the suggestion. I'm talking about dead threads. The ones where the OP is gone now, hasn't signed on in such a length of time. There are tons of threads with "post and I'll send you the link" there's nothing timeless about it, the guy logged out 5 years ago and never came back. There's no way to "get the link" yet people line up and reply asking for the link. There are some threads that are old and still work. There's rules in place against grave digging. This will help prevent that.

It's such an insignificant issue. Gravedigging is allowed if it's a relevant post and it makes the website look active.

RE: Option to report dead threads - Neil - Jul 5, 2023

I think this will just promote less activity tbh

RE: Option to report dead threads - Omniscient - Jul 5, 2023

I believe if you try to grave-dig a message comes up about it.

I don't view this as a huge problem.

EDIT: Hmm..we have a plugin that appears it's not activated. I'll look into it.

I think the plugin just did a warning that you're posting in an old thread. Again, I have to look at it. Maybe I'll remember why I deactivated it.

To combat that people should use the report button [Image: Dka2IF7.png] to inform the moderation team to take an action on that.

We ask that you don't actually report that. It's not a policy violation to grave dig.

RE: Option to report dead threads - Lrrr - Jul 6, 2023

Grave digging is not a crime, stop reporting it

Never was as far as I am aware. Even back in 2016 it wasn't a rule it was just a suggestion not to grave dig

This.

The only time it would really be an issue is if there was an attachment with broken links and the user has left the forum. Or if the post was completely irrelevant to the thread.

RE: Option to report dead threads - Gary Clark Jr. - Jul 6, 2023

I'd like to see the option to report introduction threads as much as reporting people posting on old threads.

RE: Option to report dead threads - Charlie Sheen - Jul 6, 2023

I'm driving right now so I can't screenshot and post it but the Help Docs state under "other" grave digging is a reportable offense.

Keyword USELESS reviving post. Gravedigging is allowed.
