Lenovo Thinkpad can't save bios - bob123123123 - Apr 9, 2024 Hey I'm trying to turn off secure boot on a Lenovo laptop. Once I have it off and I try to save the bios I get four popups saying write protected. I've seen password protected bios's before but not write protected ones. I can't seem to find anything online. Is there a way to shut that off or allow bios saving? Thanks. RE: Lenovo Thinkpad can't save bios - Undead - Apr 10, 2024 Any chance BitLocker is enabled on this laptop with TPM? RE: Lenovo Thinkpad can't save bios - bob123123123 - Apr 10, 2024 Hi Undead. Yes I believe it is. How would bitlocker in windows on an M.2 drive prevent me from changing the bios on a laptop? I started by removing the hard drive and putting my own in and of course it won't boot from it. Should I try modifying the bios with the original drive in it? Would that make a difference? RE: Lenovo Thinkpad can't save bios - Undead - Apr 11, 2024 On some older ThinkPads there was a way to short circuit the BIOS to reset passwords etc but I'm not sure if that can be done on newer models. I think you should search this issue with your laptop model. Thanks. sounds like you're encountering a BIOS (or UEFI firmware) write protection feature, is designed to prevent unauthorized modifications to critical system settings, including Secure Boot to prevent tampering. i guess u should check for BIOS update or reset BIOS settings: Some Lenovo laptops have a "Reset to Default" or "Factory Reset" option in the BIOS settings, try resetting the BIOS settings to default and then attempt to disable secure Boot again :) |
