Setup your own VPN server with dedicated IP - 2mins - 7 - Jun 9, 2024

Hi,

I Just thought I would share this very quick tutorial on how to setup your own VPN with a dedicated IP within 2 mins for really cheap.

There are literally 3 steps

Step one - Rent offshore VPS with dedicated IP. Depending on your specs from 3-5$

Step two - Install OpenVPN on your server the easy way:
Connect via ssh (no need for sudo command if you connect as root)
Code
wget -O openvpn.sh https://get.vpnsetup.net/ovpn
Code
sudo bash openvpn.sh --auto

Excellent now the config file is saved to /root/client.ovpn

Step three - Finish up & Connect

Install OpenVPN Connect https://openvpn.net/client/client-connect-vpn-for-windows/
Download the config to your computer via SFTP using filezilla (or any FTP client) loggin in with SSH credential
Load the config in OpenVPN Connect.

All done,

Thanks mate very quick guide.
I will add port forwarding and other settings in the future.

But its 50% or more cheaper to have dedicated IP VPN this way and takes only a few commands to achieve this.
Then logs are your own business

Bookmarking this until I am able to convert this information into a PDF file for my own use @ a later time.

Question though. I see you'd have to buy the VPS and have it with a dedicated IP.

I'd assume if you would need ... say... IP changes or Location changes... This would not be suitable? Basically, if you have a need to mask your IP, this would be a good idea and worth doing... Am I right on this ?

Umm the guide is toward using a dedicated IP but you could use dynamic DNS instead on the config and have the server rotate
But really I use server run these commands connect via that IP... burn server do again
Alot of companies allow daily or even hourly charges

Open VPN is a great choice for starters but people are transitioning to Wireguard, as there are concerns of DNS leaks that can happen to new installation's if not setup properly. For a fix, follow:

Advocating for an Wireguard installation would be not full filling, here's a quick guide you can follow:

In case you're wondering if your setup is leaking DNS, you can test it out here:

I was actually planning to setup my own with a Rpi, so maybe I'll do that instead.
Also, which VPS provider would you recommend?

U m it really doesn't matter as you burn and reuse depends on the location you wish for but Zomro.com I use for some stuff.
Netherlands based and charged per day and also crypto accepted non-KYC

Umm I haven't personally used OVH but if its like a free micro tier server it should work
