Opinion on Newer Horror Movies? - banonkiel - Jun 9, 2024 I spoke with a friend of mine couple of years ago. He told me he stopped watching all horror movies because they all became too god damn lazy. - Bad writing. - Bad acting. - Plot-holes. He thought that most recent movies rely on jump scares and that's about it and even those ain't good most of the time. like you can see it a mile away lol. Yesterday, I watched Tarot. The movie had an interesting ad campaign going, gotta hand it to them, only reason I watched it. Can only describe it as "dumpster fire of a movie" Now, on the other hand. I can name some good movies I enjoyed the past few years. Keep in mind, I honestly watched those movies expecting a "fun-bad experience" but instead got a decent thing going. - M3GAN (2022) - Smile (2022) - Evil Dead: Rise (2023) They were surprisingly good compared to most of recent horror movies. (I was also told about "Talk to me (2023)" is pretty decent, have it on my plan to watch) What's your take on horror movies? Have you seen anything recently that you liked? RE: Opinion on Newer Horror Movies? - Chung - Jun 9, 2024 I do like horror films and I understand where you’re coming from by saying all they do is rely on jump scares. I get that. I can’t remember the last horror film I watched in the movies but I find them scarier. Not sure if that’s due to people screaming and jumping and the sound being ramped up compared to watching it at home. I have seen Megan but do you class that as a horror film? I’ve not seen the other two but will add them to my to watch list! Not a film but have you seen the tv series on Netflix’s? The haunting of Hill House? That’s very good and the second is also not bad. Haunting of Bly Manor RE: Opinion on Newer Horror Movies? - banonkiel - Jun 9, 2024 (Jun 9, 2024 11:44 AM)Chung Wrote: I have seen Megan but do you class that as a horror film? M3GAN, I wouldn't call it your typical horror movie. but is a horror movie just an unsettling environment and couple of jumpscares? imo, it's that eerie feeling you get while watching, the feeling like "aw crap, something is about to go down", the better the world building been done prior to that moment, the less you can expect what's about to happen. I also forgot to add the last SAW movie "Saw X (2023)" I honestly kept watching SAW movies because I was intrigued where the story is going, but that last part felt more thriller/gore than horror to be honest, and I loved it. The Haunting of Hill House. I'm pretty sure I saw a movie of that name, it was an older movie for sure. Edit: I remember two movies, one older and one which was more recent (probably 2000s), the main actress iirc, was the redhead from The Mentalist tv show, don't remember her name for sure lol. I remember the second movie sucked even though it was more modern compared to the older one. I have the show on my plan to watch list, might jump it to the top of the list since you recommended it. To recommend something in return. Ever heard of "From" TV Series? It already aired two seasons and third season is coming this October. RE: Opinion on Newer Horror Movies? - Tyr - Jun 9, 2024 All trash except for the psychological ones RE: Opinion on Newer Horror Movies? - die_dunkelheit - Jun 10, 2024 I don't know but I want to watch "Late Night with the Devil" soon... The trailer looks pretty awesome. The trailer looks pretty awesome. I just looked it up, it has a 7.1 IMDB Rating, which is exceptional for a horror movie. Gonna add it to my plan to watch as well. Hopefully might have time this weekend to watch some of those movies/shows. The trailer looks pretty awesome. I have just finished watching it, what a movie! That's an example of a great Horror movie imo, it has all the right elements. Worth every minute and I recommend it to anyone. Also watched the first episode of The Haunting of Hill House (TV Series), Holy shit that first episode ending has me HOOKED. Hopefully will have sometime to binge watch the rest of it this weekend. RE: Opinion on Newer Horror Movies? - banonkiel - Jun 20, 2024 I finished watching The Haunting of Hill House While the show was great imo, it left a lot of questions unanswered and the characters didn't even try to tackle the main supernatural entity within the show. Decent for binge watching though, easily 7/10 on entertainment meter for me. |
