Shared Hosting or VPS, which should I pick? - emperorwurm - Jun 14, 2024

I was thinking of making a porn site, duplicate it then host them all in either shared hosting or a virtual private server. Is this a good idea or not? I am open to any suggestion.

I think it really depends on a few factors:

- The size of the website itself
- Will you be wanting to self-host the videos?
- Do you know anything about webservers?
- Do you know how to manage and maintain multiple websites on a single webserver?
- Do you know anything about networking?
- Do you know anything about security?

Those are just a few basic things i think you need to ask yourself. Those questions are mostly about VPS, so if any of the answers to those questions are no, then do your research.

Both have their pros and cons, much like anything else. Shared hosting is already set up, the hosting provider usually has a pretty decent network and server security set up and is pretty much plug and play. The issue with shared hosting is finding one that allows hosting material such as porn, there are very few these days that allow it due to laws, so you would need to find one that doesn't mind - search offshore hosting. Offshore hosting servers are usually based in countries with very few laws, if any around hosting such content. Other issues with shared hosting is the connection speeds and bandwidth cap. Unlimited does not mean unlimited, especially from larger companies. If your website, or websites as you said you plan on duplicating multiple times, starts bringing in heaps of traffic, you could overload the servers quite quickly or they will cap you or shut you down if it starts affecting other users websites on that same server. They say unlimited, but they have very often a fair usage policy on how bandwidth is distributed - hosting companies do not even have unlimited bandwidth themselves.

For VPS, you would need to know how to set up and correctly configure a webserver and set it up to be able to run multiple websites. They will have some sort of security, but as they are not set up to run websites, they will not be configured security wise to do so, so you must have knowledge of whatever OS VPS you choose, how to secure the network efficiently as you will be exposing that when you set up a webserver, and then web security for your web server. It is very daunting if you dont know what you are doing or have never done it before, but a VPS has its perks.

You fully control it,
Performance is generally a lot better than a shared hosting plan as you are the only person using it and you take full advantage of its hardware - which if you are running a website that holds and plays videos, is perfect.
Able to handle more bandwidth,
I find it a hell of a lot quicker to manage your websites,
More storage than shared hosting plans - which in your case is very important as video sites are storage hogs
You could even start renting space out on it to other websites.
A lot more flexible.

I would always try and pick a VPS over shared if it calls for it. For little projects such as a website that just runs a blog or a forum, i would just get a shared hosting account because its easier and can have it up in 5 mins, but for something larger or something i plan to extend in the future, i would always preface a VPS.

I hope this helps.

For everything that you said aside from what I quoted of course I know all of those and I am not that stupid to ask such question (I think before I ask) BUT that post would have been more better if it were posted on a thread addressing a tutorial. I hope that you did not get offended of what I have just said and I suggest you do post a thread on tutorials about those questions you just asked me.

What I intend to do is to either host the videos or get the videos out of other porn sites which is allowed on some porn sites such as xvideos and they have video referral system of some sort and you get paid.

The architecture that I wanted to do is that if the 2nd paragraph doesn't work out for me and I would host the video myself, I would most likely put it in a VPS that would carry out the videos then get a shared hosting which can host the frontend pornsites then just easily get the video straight out of the VPS. I can also use multiple domains in order for the origin not to be taken down easily as these are the flaws I have saw on existing porn sites.

Going back to my question, what I wanted to ask is if its feasible or not. My question was not addressed by your response and I am so sorry if I sounded too demanding SilentNuke 😕

I dont know you at all, and i dont know your capabilities, you did not mention anything about them in your post. You original post was vague at best, and considering the majority of people who post things like this dont know what they are doing, my reply was based on that.

Your "question" was not asked in your original post. You asked if it was a good idea to host porn sites on shared hosting or VPS, my reply addressed that. Perhaps try constructing your questions correctly and asking the actual questions you want answers to rather than posting vague one sentence posts and shitting on those who give you advice because you lack the ability to ask the question you actually want answering.

Sorry if im sounding too harsh 🙄

Starting to realise why it took 1 day for you to get a responce.

Best of luck with your aim here, hope it works out for you.

Okay point taken and considered! You are right that majority of the users in this forum mostly asked deranged questions and in the end they do not know anything about it. But I hope you consider one day because it sounds so offending to people who know what they are doing then all of a sudden be treated like a complete newbie. I don't like that man! I hope you don't mind and I am so sorry if I really sounded like a complete dick on my last reply. 😆 So sorry dude.

You're not too harsh and I was the one who happens to be harsh. Hehehe. Considering you did your best in responding to me though now its clear to you I know what I am doing and I don't lack the knowledge. I am just basically looking for some suggestions instead of a tutorial.

But hey! Considering what you have posted earlier, I suggest you make a thread about what you just asked me. I highly recommend it! But sorry again and I hope you don't totally mind at all and let bygones be bygones.

To make things clear, I ain't shitting at anyone and I just said that I was not satisfied with the answer that's all, I hope you know how to take a critique. In my case, you are correct I did not clarify that I already knew those stuff that is why you suggested things for noobs. I hope you do not get offended, that is why I was so persistent in my sorry's on my last post so don't get mad at me too much or disappointed. 😭

Its all good - i had to make myself clear.

Back to the topic at hand - yes, it would be preferable to host the videos on a VPS and use the frontend platform on a sperate server to call and collect the requested videos. As you have said, it makes things easier if one website gets taken down. You have a good idea of how to do it. It sounds like your only real problem is finding a reliable host that allows this content. Yes, it may sound like a "noob" thing to say, but i have seen it first hand, finding the "perfect" host, setting up shop, gaining members and traffic, only for the servers to either get shut down for legal reasons, or lack of funding from the hosting company. Many hosts claim to allow these sort of content to gain traction without legally being able to do so, and catch a case of the law shortly after. You need to do this for both the video storage VPS, and the frontend shared hosting sites.

Okay thanks for your kind consideration man. Would add you to the buddy list if its find with you. Hehehe. 😆

Anyway, I am looking at bulletproof hosting here in this forum. There are lots of cheaper options but I am looking for one with the cheapest and would be suitable for my sites and needs. Right now since I do not want to code from scratch, I am planning to use WordPress for the frontend and I already have WP-Script's Mass Embedder and a RetroTube theme. Ever heard of those before?

Yes you can add me lol

No, I'm not really a wordpress user and never really have been, over literally only like a month ago statyed a website which uses wordpress so I'm playing around with its functionality and customisation.

Wordpress may be an ok solution in terms of SEO from what I understand, but I dont think that will matter with the type of content you with to set up.

I'm sure there will be premade scripts online that do what you are looking for, just for a front end website and then try can customise how you please. There is no need to reinvent the wheel.

Yay! 🙃

I see, I just used is because I am too lazy to do everything from scratch. Just like what you said, why reinvent the wheel if everything is already in bundle. I had the plugins like from 2 years ago I think or maybe 3 I forgot and it was paid. I spent lifetime subscriptions and unlimited use of the plugin and theme but ended up not using it though I can still see my email getting updated and after doing some trials 3 days ago the theme still works with the latest WordPress.

If I were to spread the my porn sites, which do you think its best to spread it? I already know how to make it and setup everything, only problem I have right now is how to spread it and monetize it fully for 2024. I prefer to get payment in crypto instead of cash just for personal and anonymity purposes. Any recommendations?
