anti cheats - Aurelius - Jul 16, 2024
Catching to the new Riot vanguard anti cheat wich is basically a rootkit , what do you think of kernel level anti cheats ?
is it worth to have a rootkit on your pc and trust the dev so you can play your fav game?

For league right? I haven't played that game in so long and def wont be going back if they put shit that deep into my pc.

My first instinct like many is not being a big fan of it. Even if it helps with anticheat a lot more, it's a bit much. Thankfully it's not something I have to actually contemplate though and so I also in turn don't know fully how I'd feel about the idea, if I could be ok with it, etc. I am curious to see what others that actually play and have to make that decision think though.

a cat-and-mouse game where there are no winners.

Considering how invasive it is, it's pretty crazy that cheating will still occur lol. Does kind of give a sense of what's the point?

Anti-Cheats are only there to minimize cheating. It's just going to be impossible to completely get rid of it.
A lot of people still don't know about DMA Cards which is quite crazy. The cheats don't even have to be on the main PC anymore.
There's also already AI cheats.

Yeah it's always sad thinking about the fact that cheats will continue to be a thing and only advance further. People often complain about anticheat not getting better, but regardless of that being the case or not, do so while not realizing that cheats continue getting better as well anyway. It will always just be a battle of minimizing it as much as possible. Never actually possible to entirely get rid of it.
