Walk, bike, or drive? - Hackers - Aug 1, 2024

Do you usually walk, bike, or drive?
Or perhaps you prefer scooters

For me I have done all throughout life, and there was a year where I biked to work 45 mins to & from, and took the bus in between the rides, when I went to college part time for example. And for a few months I biked for over an hour to work an over an hour back.

Of course now I’ve driven for many more years, but I do miss biking from time to time.

I like waking though! I choose to walk to local stores a lot, it’s nice to get moving - even though it’s super hot (and likely that the climate will get more fucked every year). I’m privileged to have the choice to walk or drive or bike - many billions of people may not have those options.

I’m interested in hearing how HF travels

I daily drive a sedan currently, I used to ride dirtbikes/enduros(dual sport legal road bikes) but never got my license yet. I want to ride 300+ mile trail that used to be old train tracks from the 1890s. kinda what im putting my goals towards atm

Are you from the US ?

When I was younger I was wondering : " Why do kids always have bikes to go to their friend's house in American movies ? " Then I realized that the streets were very long haha, and that's also why American people can get their driving license at 16 I guess, in Europe it's usually 18.

I used to bike a lot when I was younger, now I walk a lot, I don't have a car, too expensive, and not really worth it where I live, I have lot of public transport.

I remember when I was younger calling my friends on their phone (the house phone, smartphone didn't exist at this time), asking if they want to go outside, so we took our bike and met somewhere, that was a gold age, no smartphone, not that much Internet, enjoying the real life

All of the above, depending on the situation and time.

I prefer to drive, however I used to live in a very busy side of town back in the day and sometimes it would actually be faster for me to walk, so I would walk to and from work probably 50% of the time over the course of two years.

I recently bought a bike, kinda because I wanted to but also to make money. I got a really food deal and I can almost double my money on it (when I get time to actually to a few minor repairs). I use it tho randomly, it's a good way to get around, but the general car traffic and lack of places for bikes suck big time...so...mostly I drive (love it tho).

I primarily drive most places and take walks just for leisure and mental health and not getting from point A to B. I’ve had points in my life though where walking and biking were my only options which stunk at the time.

Howdy nodes. To answer your question, it really depends on my destination. I actually used to ride my bike all the time, but since electric scooters have evolved so much and can go pretty fast, I don't find myself riding anymore. I mostly drive when I need to go places, as where I live walking to the store isn't really practical. But I do sometimes drive to the park, and will go for a walk there, to give the body a little exercise, as well as free my mind from all the stresses related to work.

I like to Ride the motorcycle everywhere

RE: Walk, bike, or drive? - TooBurnt - Aug 2, 2024

I usually drive but if I lived in a city or where things were closer I would probably walk or bike. Right now though everything is so far away a vehicle is almost mandatory.

I always prefer to drive tbh.

RE: Walk, bike, or drive? - padrino - Aug 2, 2024

I learnt to drive relatively late compared to my peers (I was 25) so prior to that I was walking everywhere. Now I drive all the time, even for things that are a half hour walk away. And let me tell you, my waistline has suffered for it lol
