Traditional criminality versus cyber criminality - CaptechPhD - Sep 2, 2024 There is some research that suggests that there is overlap between traditional criminality and cyber criminality. Personally, I think there are some methodological issues with this research. I believe that you cannot lump all cyber criminality into one basket. There is a significant difference between cyber dependent and cyber enabled crime. Heck, there is even significant differences among cyber dependent "crimes." For example, I believe that there is a big difference between the hacker who gets access to a system for the sake of learning or testing their skill and the hacker who gets access to a system for the purpose of causing damage or taking something that doesn't belong to them. What are your thoughts on the differences between cyber crime and traditional forms of offending? Are cyber criminals like traditional criminals or are they different and how so? RE: Traditional criminality versus cyber criminality - xKingK - Sep 2, 2024 Crazy shit bro thats insane RE: Traditional criminality versus cyber criminality - Blockonome - Sep 2, 2024 I think the difference here is whether or not you steal something and are physical violent IRL. You do not inflict physical damage online... So there is a difference, a massive one. I agree. There is a huge difference between crimes committed on a computer and violent crimes. Some people would argue that there is also a huge difference between traditional property crime and crime committed on a computer. Consider if someone enters a persons house without permission that would be considered a break and enter in some places. Even though the person didn't hurt anyone and didn't take anything. It is not allowed to enter someone's private property without their permission. This could be considered quite similar to when a person accesses a website or network without permission. This is also considered a crime in some places. Are these acts the same, even though one is in the physical world and one in the digital world? What makes them a crime? Is it the violation of privacy? |
