Port Forwarding Tutorial - DramaKing - Sep 28, 2024

Since there have been a lot of threads by 'hackers' who don't know the basics of how a firewall or NAT works, I thought I'd put together a little tutorial on how to forward a port in a router. I'd highly recommend something like a Network+ course or even A+ to really understand how computer networks work, but for those who just want a quick-and-dirty RAT setup or self-host a website, I'll make this simple.

Go to portforward.com and look up your specific router. Log into it and follow the steps to forward the port for the RAT. If the router isn't clear about which IP address is yours, check out the section on finding your IP address. An easy way on Windows (for me) is to open a Command Prompt and run ipconfig. The public IP address may be viewable in the router; otherwise, Google "what is my IP?"

To test that it's working, I use portchecker.co. I know that others like canyouseeme.org. Enter the port number and see if it's open. If it isn't, go to the Command Prompt and run 'netstat /an' to confirm that the application is listening on the port. Also check WD Firewall.

Note that this does not work for cellular or satellite Internet. In this case, using IPv6 addresses may be a workaround as IPv6 does not use NAT.

For gdfrtgderg4fd in particular.

The default port will depend on the RAT. You do not have to use the default. The only real rule is that you must bind to an available port, so avoid ports like 445, 135, or 139. WD Firewall may prompt you to allow the RAT. The router firewall will not block you after you've forwarded the port. Port forwarding should actually be a type of firewall rule.

Never tried that, but I can in a bit. Fortunately, it's Saturday.
