Navigating online relationships - Hackers - Jan 3, 2025

We’re all from different corners of the world,
Some men,
Some women,
Some boys,
Some girls,
Some adults,
Some children,
Some in between.

We’re all of different views,
Some red,
Some blue,
Some white,
Some brown,
Some tall,
Some small,
Some in between.

How do you personally navigate your online friendships in a community of diverse attitudes, ages, origins, politics, skills, and interests?

It's very difficult.

After a certain point in time you have get close to each other. Physically see each other. Otherwise it fades away because there's very little you get out of just online interaction.

This is very true, or on video cam or audio at least if not in person!
I also think that games can be a good way - but not just videogames - card games, poker, drinking games, dice, monopoly, etc, and personally intimate get to know eachother games.

Doesn’t matter what people say or think if you are good at something there will always be haters. I surround myself with more laid-back people.

I think this is very special and nice here on the forum, as the system forces you to interact with everyone respectfully and listen to perspectives you might never have heard otherwise.

I just say what I think. It doesn't matter if people get angry or not.

For me, I usually align myself with like-minded people. All you have to do is post and watch how people respond. This will give you an idea of who aligns with your way of thinking. Take you for example: your pro-Ukrainian and I love trolling you. Although we're different-minded, it does make for interesting debates here on HF. And I don't walk away salty because I like to debate.

You dont talk about politics.

I don't like people.
I truly don't even like my girlfriend and find her incredibly annoying and sub-optimal in her behavioral characteristics.
Thereby I believe any and all friendship is temporary. Stressing about maintaining friendship or putting work in will only lead you into failure.

That's all well and good but the next step in a relationship either romantic or platonic requires physical interaction to take it to next level.

I also think that sooner or later you should meet up. I met some friends on GTA SA:MP, and today, after about a decade, we've even organized vacations together, even though we're in different parts of the country.
