What makes a Person not a script kiddie? - AnonUserBB - Jan 4, 2025 Hello to all! I want to know what makes a person not a script kiddie? What I want to say its in this word of cybersecurity the word "Script Kiddie" for what I undestend is someone that uses other people softwares to create malware or to do other stuff related to cybersecurity and most important that she doesn't actually know how this softwares is working. So and script kiddie is not only a person that uses other people software ( becouse many cybersecurity "profesionals" uses other people softwares) its most important that she doesn't actually know what is making this software to work. In other ways what I see its that to not be a "script kiddie" you need to program your own malware and most important know how the software that you use or you program its working. You think that my definition is right? Tell me please. So right now I will not say that im actually a "script kiddie" becouse I have studies on informatics and I actually know things related to networking and many related things in informatics, but I will say that Im not a "Real Hacker" becouse I have no idea how to make my own malware or undestend deeply how the programs that I use to study certen things about cybersecurity work, what I want to say is that I know the "basics" of why the program is working but not in a deep way how to program the software that I use. You recommend me to get on programming to know how to create my own malware or know in a deep way why the software that I use its working deeply? I thing python its a greate option to start to make my own malware ( I thing tell me if im incorrect) or C+, Tell me if im correct on the questions that I made and what coding languages do you recommend to start making malware and undestending how a malware works. Thanks for reading my post! ✌✌ RE: What makes a Person not a script kiddie? - ℛedemption - Jan 4, 2025 To me, a script kiddie lacks an understanding of what's happening. You mentioned you're not a script kiddie, but you don't consider yourself a real hacker. I think you should ignore that mentality. Who cares, what's important is improving yourself. RE: What makes a Person not a script kiddie? - AnonUserBB - Jan 4, 2025 So you think if a person lacks on programing but knows how to use tools and know what this tools do its not a "script kiddie"? RE: What makes a Person not a script kiddie? - Pointless - Jan 4, 2025 Is not that important I would say but yeah I consider myself a script kiddy because I know very little surface level programming. Sadly is not that far away were with surface level and chatGPT even script kiddies will get far in life as a "programmer". RE: What makes a Person not a script kiddie? - AnonUserBB - Jan 4, 2025 I think that if you wanna be a profesional hacker you need to be a programer too. But I don't consider for exemple someone that knows how networking works and the tools that a "Hacker" use becouse atlest she knows what is doing on the network, a script kiddie I think its someone that doesn't know eather networking and programming. So if you know a little bit of networking atlest you are not a "script kiddie" you are in a level low-medium level becouse atlest you know the tools and the networking. I don't know if im correct, tell me if im wrong. RE: What makes a Person not a script kiddie? - MightBeASociopath - Jan 4, 2025 IMO a script kiddie is someone who uses pre-made hacking tools or scripts without fully understanding how they work. They rely on these tools to exploit vulnerabilities rather than skill or deeper knowledge of whats actually going on. Chatgpt is great but shouldnt be used as a crutch. RE: What makes a Person not a script kiddie? - r00tme0x00 - Jan 4, 2025 I think it is important to pick up a programming language. I started with C/C++ but object oriented programming still gets me. IMO you do not require object oriented programming understanding - but it is very good to have an understanding of C/C++. RE: What makes a Person not a script kiddie? - ttbr0 - Jan 4, 2025 you are right with your observation that professionals use tools that others have written (why should everyone reinvent a worse wheel) but you are wrong in thinking that these professionals know how the tools work underneath. many tools involve a lot of complexity like nmap and metasploit and i know for a fact that these people do not know how some of the technology works. but the field is incredibly massive and there is too much for just one person to know. the thing, in my opinion, that makes someone a script kiddie is a combination of their fundamental knowledge and their attitude. i would not call all beginners script kiddies because some of them seek and absorb knowledge like their life depended on it. if you are copy pasting someone elses code but with the intent of learning how it works, i would not label you a script kiddie. if you dont know anything and talk nonsensical trash and pose like youre a hacker then you are a script kiddie. if you say that you have a background in some computer science and then say "c+" then i would say you are on the edge of being called a script kiddie, but i will give you the benefit of the doubt. regarding "real hackers" i am of the mindset that "hacker" is a title that you are given by others out of respect. it is not something you can declare yourself. of course the title only means something if those who give it to you are skilled themselves otherwise it is worth nothing if they are nobodies (they dont know what theyre talking about). real hackers dont care about titles because they know their own skill and worth and labels are trivial matters. they only care to learn (and exploit, if youre into that). if you want to stop being a script kiddie, break the attitude that you are a script kiddie, throw away the mindset of labels and focus on improving your skill. if you are good enough to be called a hacker then it will only take time. RE: What makes a Person not a script kiddie? - AnonUserBB - Jan 5, 2025 1-Computer Science and a Grade on Informatics is not the same -In computer science they do algoritms, computer theory,AI,etc -In a grade on Informatic they do System Managment, Networking, ofimatics, Security In a low level and little bit of programming like html, css,Java and Pyhton ( Java and python they dedicate almost 1 class a weak) atlest in my case, that is going to be different in other countries 2-Bro, I just miss a character saying C+ Insted of C++ you have errors too like all humans, don't be a dick saying "You are on edge of being a stript kiddie", its like calling a studied of English language a scholarship kid becouse she made a gramatical error on a exam 3- In the other stuff that you talked, I think that you are right. Whats more important for cybersecurity? C++ or Python? Just to know where to start, I do a little bit of python on school but I don't remember anything to be honest. RE: What makes a Person not a script kiddie? - orion11 - Jan 5, 2025 A lot of people I've heard answer this question generally say a few things like this, but I'll try and extend on it. If you can use tools and scripts while understanding the principles behind them (For example, using Metasploit, but also understanding the do's and don'ts, depending on your intent) Have a general grasp of programming (Python, etc), OS's, networking, and cybersecurity principles. Main idea here, You should know WHY a tool works not just how to RUN it, and that often ties into the fact that so many script kiddies copy paste and lack the ability to adapt when things happen. They simply lack logic when it comes to their approach. Ethical Awareness is another big one, mostly depending on your intent with your tools. A lot of script kiddies engage in unethical behavior without understanding the consequences of what they're doing, and end up getting into trouble because of it. You have to recognize the boundaries of what you're doing, WELL before you actually do it, and you need to make the choice on if you personally want to cross that line. Non-script kiddies are ALWAYS constantly learning, staying updated with the state of technologies, and with trends. The main idea generally tends to lie within your depth of knowledge, problem-solving, and your application with your tools. If you can't understand what a certain tool does that you're trying to use, then look at it further and understand why it's doing what it's doing. RE: What makes a Person not a script kiddie? - w0rd - Jan 5, 2025 To me, a script kiddie has little to no foundational knowledge of the extremely complex exploits they’re attempting to execute. They’re too lazy to put in the work, yet oddly enough, they’re almost always arrogantly ignorant. Ignorantly arrogant? Eh you decide. Everyone starts off as a one and that's completely fine, you have to start somewhere. At one point, I had a LAMP stack running a PHP application riddled with vulnerabilities practically a playground for every type of attack. Then I threw ModSecurity into the mix and started tailing the logs with something like: "tail -f /var/log/modsec_audit.log". Every time I got blocked, I’d analyze what triggered the WAF, tweak the obfuscation of my payload, and try again until I bypassed it. I picked up a ton of WAF bypass technique and honestly, it was FUN. The problem is, most don’t realize their ceiling is just a doormat to a skilled hacker’s penthouse. |
