WannaCry Malware Story - Omniscient - Jan 21, 2025 https://getpocket.com/explore/item/the-confessions-of-marcus-hutchins-the-hacker-who-saved-the-internet If you're not familiar with the story of WannaCry and Hutchins you should read it. Nice details all around. Snippet.... Quote:Hutchins was coming off of an epic, exhausting week at Defcon, one of the world's largest hacker conferences, where he had been celebrated as a hero. Less than three months earlier, Hutchins had saved the internet from what was, at the time, the worst cyberattack in history: a piece of malware called WannaCry. Just as that self-propagating software had begun exploding across the planet, destroying data on hundreds of thousands of computers, it was Hutchins who had found and triggered the secret kill switch contained in its code, neutering WannaCry's global threat immediately. RE: WannaCry Malware Story - ttbr0 - Jan 21, 2025 theres debate that it was an intentional "kill switch" and people speculate that it was an anti analysis feature. after all why would you want a kill switch if you intend to ransom the entire world for profit? Well that was the argument law enforcement took. RE: WannaCry Malware Story - Secrets - Jan 22, 2025 Either way for both speculations, crazy malware on a path to global cyber destruction, and even crazier he was able to find a kill switch. RE: WannaCry Malware Story - Pr0m3th3us - May 20, 2025 Great article, i just finished watching a documentary on North Korean Cyber Attacks and they mention wannacry, Park Jin-hyok, and Marcus Hutchins at the end. I fully believe this will happen again, NK has alot of cards up their sleeve.
