IP Recon - SIM-5614029 - Jan 31, 2025 Hey, Thanks for reading my thread. I have a question regarding IP recon, on which i have been trying to get an answer for a while. Let say i have a target from which i need to know what ip adress they use. I know i can get it by either implementing a mal link, like grabify or BeEF, However i would like to do this without any interaction needed from the target. What would you recommend? Thank you for taking time to respond! Have a nice day. P.s I think this would be the appropriate section to post this. please advice me if this is not correct. You need to have some interaction with the target. Besides, unless you're going to make a police report or find out if someone is in a certain country, what good will knowing an IP address do? Knowing the IP address would give input for scanning it for open ports. Okay, you seem new to hacking and computer networks in general, so let me explain what a waste of time that is. Router firewalls have a default deny rule that blocks all incoming packets from WAN not dst-natted. Even if there was an open port, you'd need an unpatched exploit for the specific router model that would give you some kind of admin access or RCE. Even so, all you could do is mess with the Internet connection. I once enabled remote administration on a router without changing the default password and relied on security through obscurity like an idiot. All that happened is the language setting got changed to Russian (or Ukrainian if that was an option) because of NAT/PAT. Well the idea behind this question and getting the ip address would be to further elaborate on the open ports and see if there are any vulnerabilities that could be exploited for any Initial acces. By your reasoning saying that it is a waste of time, what would be a different way of approaching you would do to gain initial acces, beside using acces brokers. thanks RE: IP Recon - DramaKing - Jan 31, 2025 (Jan 31, 2025 07:48 AM)laslaslaslas Wrote: Well the idea behind this question and getting the ip address would be to further elaborate on the open ports and see if there are any vulnerabilities that could be exploited for any Initial acces. Sending a RAT will be the easiest way to get access to a normie's computer. If it was a business, you could at least try. RE: IP Recon - SIM-5614029 - Jan 31, 2025 would that not have more direction to social engineering rather then hacking ? Since the goal would be to undermine a person onto clicking a link or file RE: IP Recon - DramaKing - Feb 1, 2025 (Jan 31, 2025 08:09 AM)laslaslaslas Wrote: would that not have more direction to social engineering rather then hacking ? Social engineering is hacking, just not the technical side. And some will say that all hacks require some social engineering. So yes, social engineering is going to have a much higher chance of success than attacking a router with no open ports or remote access by default? Have you tried scanning your own router by chance? Hey, Yes i have practiced nmap a few times, also use it with htb. i read the nmap manual and their where a few answers on my questions on it. my og question differentiated a bit of what i posted here. for example i did not know that a webserver of let say a business runs on the same iprange as a work pc. i know now this is basic understanding, as posted i am really in the beginning stages of hacking. thanks RE: IP Recon - Yologamer006 - Feb 6, 2025 i have an ip adress from my friend how can i see his position ? and can i get other informations about the ip RE: IP Recon - SoulZeh - Feb 6, 2025 (Feb 6, 2025 02:02 PM)Yologamer006 Wrote: i have an ip adress from my friend how can i see his position ? IP Addresses don't give an accurate position of the person, so no. Most information you can get is a GEO location, what provider and few other useless information, don't get too excited. IP Addresses now don't really mean much due to most providers allowing dynamic IP. |
