Back yard renovation - Patio extension part 1 - Chrome - Feb 4, 2025

Hi Guys,

Something pretty exciting for my family this year is we are doing an overhaul in our back and front yard. The first focus for us is to get our back yard done as that's where we spend most of our time. Our patio has been pretty plain jane for a while and we have just decided to renovate it so we can host more events and those events to not be shit.

If you dont already know, we build our house about 3 years ago, you can find that post here : https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=6281660

So we made a big extension to our patio today, we had the concrete go down. We need to wait 30 days before I can get a tiler in to lay the tiles. THe concrete cost us $2800 AUD.

I am very excited to share the remaining of this renovation as the year carries on. This will be 10's of thousands invested in this project!

Let me know your thoughts and if you have ideas.

My next thread will be a road map of whats to come!

Hey mate, the tiles are the same as what is on the ground in the current patio. See pics below.

That's a lot more space ! Did you make this part by yourself or you paid someone to do it, like a professional / worker ? (not sure about the right word in English)

How will you use it, what will you put on this new space ? Do you plan to cover it in case it's raining ?

Hey mate,

We are going to rotate the pool table so there's more space around to play it. We are doing an outdoor dining area, a BBQ area and a fire pit area. Also going to have a kegerator so we have beer on tap and a few other bits and pieces.

Wow, the transformation of your patio looks amazing! The new extension looks like it will be perfect for hosting events. Can't wait to see the rest of your renovation progress. Good luck with the tiling process!

Yeah mate, just trying to source a good tiler. We priced up the tiles and that came back at around $850.

I like the way it looks since I am guessing where you live it doesn't get too hot nor do you have hail. I myself would have just kept it as grass since where I reside it gets so hot during summer you aren't able to leave anything on the concrete and placing tiles on there would just reflect into the house and cause increased temperatures inside the house which than would need more AC usage and higher electricity bill. Still looks good can't wait to see what it will look like once completed.

You've done a really nice job. I love that lush grass too.
