HijackThis: What Do All Those Numbers Mean?: N1, N2, N3, and N4 Entries

These sections correspond to the Startup Page and Default Search Page settings for Netscape and Mozilla browsers.

Storage Location:
These entries are stored in the prefs.js file located under:

Code 
C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data

For Netscape 4, the entries are stored in the prefs.js file within the program directory, typically found at:

Code 
DriveLetter:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\default\prefs.js

On the rare occasion that Netscape is still being used, it's good to understand these entries:

N1 - Netscape 4's Startup Page and Default Search Page.

N2 - Netscape 6's Startup Page and Default Search Page.

N3 - Netscape 7's Startup Page and Default Search Page.

N4 - Mozilla's Startup Page and Default Search Page.

These entries define the homepage and search settings for the respective browsers. If an unwanted URL appears in these entries, it may indicate browser hijacking, requiring removal through HijackThis or manual correction.
