Breaking News: US - Quid pro quo offer to Ukraine in Munich - Hackers - Feb 17, 2025

https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2025/02/17/7498755/

At this time I have no opinions or thoughts to share. I choose to share the news alone.
I encourage anyone to lookup the estimated value of Ukraine's rare earth minerals once extracted, the % being demanded by the USA, and the tiny amount in comparison we have invested / will invest. Those minerals are in the tens of trillions of dollars over time.
-----------

Quote:The US side at the Munich Security Conference demanded that Ukraine immediately agree to their version of the mineral resources deal in exchange for aid, otherwise, they threatened to prevent a meeting with US Vice President JD Vance. However, the pressure stopped after Kyiv refused, and the meeting took place anyway.

Details: The details that European Pravda has found out from Ukrainian and American sources indicate that the unexpected postponement of the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US Vice President JD Vance was due to the US demand that Ukraine agree to their vision of the "mineral resources for aid" agreement and sign the document.

At first, Kyiv perceived the American statements that they expected Zelenskyy to sign the document in Munich as a figurative turn of phrase: "We want to sign as soon as possible," but the expectations turned out to be literal.

Ukraine was required to sign the document immediately to meet with Vance and negotiate the outlines of peace, and they gave time until the evening to agree on amendments.

The US was not prepared to alter the parameters, as reported by European Pravda sources. One of the sources said that after Ukraine provided the Americans with a revised version of the agreement in an attempt to reach a compromise, they revoked all of the important amendments and insisted that Ukraine either sign what was given or nothing at all, and that a meeting with Vance could only take place as part of a package that included the signing.

When Zelenskyy refused to sign the document in Munich in the form that the White House had insisted on, the harsh pressure from American negotiators suddenly disappeared, and instead, constructive talks with Vance ensued.

Background: On Monday, 17 February, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is interested in signing an agreement with the US on the use of mineral resources, but only after it is revised to take into account the country's key interests.

I don't think blackmail is the appropriate term to use here lmao.

I didn't write the headline sir.
I'm not a bot, I am a human.

You can continue to obsess over me if you want. I think you have NDS : Nodes derangement syndrome.
I shared a news article. I did not write their headline. I will however adjust it for the sake of semantics. "Blackmail" is not accurate. I will edit their article for them here on HF. I try to always share news as-is without any editing. If I wanted to manipulate people I could edit & delete anything, but I always share content as-is. I don't always use the headline as my thread title, but in this case I did use their wording. I'll update it to quid pro quo.

You can either choose to focus on 1 word that I didn't write, or you can focus on the bigger picture.
This was not fair negotiation.

Imagine if we told Poland, France, England, and others that they had to give us 50% of their total, future resource extraction revenue/value in return for us defending them against the German Nazis.

You people are despicable. May you all find truth & integrity sometime soon - you are the fucking psyops boy, not me.

I completely agree.

The actual definition of blackmail doesn't apply, and neither does extortion.
It's much more in line with:
Quid pro quo : "a favor or advantage granted or expected in return for something."

I seem to remember MAGA being EXTREMELY upset at someone for alleged quid pro quo in Ukraine - the expectation of financial deals in some way or another, in return for political favors or influence.

Sound familiar?

These MAGA people are so hypocritical, blinded by an addiction to Trump, and they ignore every single fact.
I agree though that this article's use of "blackmail" is not the correct word to use, but my stance is that the quid pro quo offer itself is essentially equally unethical if not illegal.

---------

I do also want to add that it depends on who we ask:
Quote:Blackmail was originally a term from the Scottish Borders meaning payments rendered in exchange for protection from thieves and marauders. The "mail" part of blackmail derives from Middle English male meaning "rent or tribute".

Russia is both a thief and marauder, are they not? I can't think of two better words to describe Russia's invasion & pillaging and murder of so many innocent Ukrainian citizens and soldiers.

One could say it is blackmail under that definition, 100%.
