Quick chat for Hack Forums Chat - Fiber - Mar 1, 2025 I'd like to be able to browse the site while being able to remain active in the Hack Forums Chat, I see the idea is there with the quick convo feature could we not have the same for the chat? Maybe a toggle option for those that don't want to be in the chat? I would find it more enjoyable being able to browse in a singular tab instead of having both open in different tabs flicking between the two. It's small but in the long run would be a nice quality of life, Let me know what you think
RE: Quick chat for Hack Forums Chat - illuminati▲ - Mar 1, 2025 I think it would be nice to have Convo open while I'm scrolling threads. After all this isn't a social networking site, right? Yet here you are, posting. Activity can exist in multiple areas of the site and allowing both preferences to be meshed into one creates a better user experience. >10 people automatically means to disallow the chance the chat to become more popular and more easily accessible thus creating more engagement RE: Quick chat for Hack Forums Chat - Nachfolger - Mar 1, 2025 (Mar 1, 2025 07:28 PM)- Sam - Wrote: There is rarely more than 10 people in that chat. Crazy to implement something which people hardly use. After all this isn't a social networking site, right? Would this not increase usage? HF already has a Quick Convos feature, it's just very poorly written and buggy. Let alone the fact it doesn't allow you to use the actual convo. I agree with OP that we should be able to simultaneously view and use chat while viewing a thread. Being that most people use a mobile device this would increase engagement and the amount of active members in the chat in a single time. RE: Quick chat for Hack Forums Chat - Omniscient - Mar 2, 2025 Quote:I'd like to be able to browse the site while being able to remain active in the Hack Forums Chat That sounds like an extensive edit to the existing system. You're asking me to make the Convo more like the forum or at least more integrated. At some point it would be a mess and look like Discord with a massive interface. That's just not something I want to implement. Most people use HF with multiple tabs, that's actually just common user browser behavior. I don't see why I'd implement this just so you can do it all in one browser tab. When I look at the Convo interface, I don't even see where this concept would go. So that's my interface complaints about this. But then there is the technical side. In order to do this I'd have to build a lot of functions as Javascript to interact with the forum. I'm not even sure I could pull it off given my weakness in JS. RE: Quick chat for Hack Forums Chat - Cooligan - Mar 5, 2025 Not sure if anyone's pointed it out, but we have a side-bar Convo menu for unread messages from private chats, but unfortunately not for public convo. That would be a cool addition to the existing side-bar for sure, but personally I prefer having public Convo opened in its own tab. Convo side-bar button: ![]() You also receive a notification when you have new messages on the Convo side-bar button: ![]() Convo side-bar opened: ![]() You can see it's useful for checking when you receive a new Convo message. Say you aren't already in the public Convo room, it makes for fast & easy checking to see who messaged you and what it's about. While there's a button to open the specific Convo you clicked on, as well as a 'Back' or 'Close' button which will return you to the previous screen, sometimes if the usernames are too long, there's no way to scroll right in order to see the Open Convo or Close/Back buttons. Open Convo & Close/Back buttons: ![]() Example of usernames covering the buttons: (tends to only happen for group chats) ![]() Not sure if any other Middlemen have encountered the usernames overlapping the operation buttons, but while checking the side-bar Convo tab, as said, if it's a group chat the usernames are likely to stretch across the top where the Open & Close/Back buttons would normally be. So I suppose while we're on the topic, it could be helpful if this was somehow tweaked to shorten/abbreviate the usernames so that both operation buttons appear no matter how long the usernames may be. RE: Quick chat for Hack Forums Chat - Omniscient - Mar 5, 2025 I've been very tempted to remove the Quick Convo. People sit and respond in there for hours but haven't made a single post in the regular threads in days... I'd almost vote to see it removed, and maybe just relegate the meme-ry to the Daily Check In thread or something to get people back out browsing the boards. "Upon further interaction" aka you're now addicted to it and now you need help detoxing RE: Quick chat for Hack Forums Chat - Fiber - Mar 6, 2025 (Mar 6, 2025 05:55 PM)Virulent Wrote: Hahah it is good for a laugh sometimes but really I'd rather see the bants in the lounge/SRPP/etc. Just would have to have a modicum of quality. Not only that, you don’t retain history so being able to go back later in the day hell even in a few years and you still might get a chuckle from it. I still think the idea of being able to quickly dip in and out of the chat more fluently with the site would be beneficial and if not then I agree I would rather have it posted on the forum. |
