Which IT non-profit organizations would / have you donate to ? - Bastille - Mar 30, 2025

Recently, I’ve been thinking about donating to IT non-profit organizations because when I was younger, I always said, “When I grow up and start earning a salary, I’ll be able to give back.”

Now I’m wondering which ones are truly worth it—who really deserves it?

I’d like to keep this thread focused on IT-related non-profit organizations.
Here are a few I have in mind :
  • WinRAR (Been using it for free for years—these guys definitely deserve some love.)

  • Wayback Machine / Internet Archive (Seriously, how amazing is it to browse the internet from the past?!)

  • VLC (Who hasn’t downloaded VLC? Plus, they’re French—gotta support the homeland!)

  • FSF / FOSS / The Linux Foundation (Like, where would we be if they hadn’t been there ?)

By the way, speaking of WinRAR—they’ve released some clothes and merch : https://in.tern.et/collections/winrar which are crazy, I would defnitely wear the WinRAR SENIOR VARSITY JACKET tern® , but need to get a job before haha, can't spend 224$ on this right now.

Feel free to share the ones you're thinking about !

Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) deserves it hands-down.

uBlock is a must for sure - also MAL-Sync extention. VLC, qbittorrent, and Audacity. Maybe Veracrypt too.
