Python, most common smaller exploits are often written in Python

Depends on what you want to do.

People often start with Python as it's more beginner-friendly and as there are a lot of resources online.

But, what are your objectives ? What do you want to do ? Crack software ? Create malware ? Hack websites ? Create exploits ?

There is a good python 100 day course through Udemy (warez disallowed) that frequently goes down to $20 which I am finding helpful. Sorry I’m too noob to post link

Python is the Swiss-army knife: every major tool (Scapy, Impacket, pwntools, sqlmap) is written in it and the syntax is beginner-friendly.
Bash is next—you’ll live in the terminal, so scripting quick loops/grep chains is daily life.
Then pick one low-level language: C for buffer-overflow work or Go for fast concurrency-heavy scanners.
JavaScript matters too once you hit web apps (XSS, CSRF, prototype pollution).
Everything else (Ruby, Perl, PowerShell) is situational—learn the four above and you can read/extend 90 % of public exploits.

Low level is the best for red teams, but Python is very common for certain tools.

I personally prefer C, C++ but others can be great. Golang has some interesting projects too. I've been a huge fan of Go recently, but just in general, not for hacking. I don't hack people

Depends on what you're trying to do honestly. I wouldn't use C/C++ or low level for certain tasks

This is useful. Thank you!
