Journalists yay or nay? - junooo - Jun 17, 2025

Hello good people of this forum!!

Just a quick question, what do you guys think of journalists or journalism in general?
Do you guys think they are purposefully spreading misinformation? Or that they could do better? Is that view on news and journalists widespread in your area, or do you feel like you are the only one with that view?

I personally avoid a lot of news because of the negativity, but generally I think journalism is great. And I do enjoy reading up on long informative pieces.

Thanks!

Journalism for me is asking questions that are unpleasant. Question the holocaust. Question 9/11. Question the JFK assasination. Question Covid.

Question every fucking thing. Don't stop at topics that are "allowed" to be questioned, otherwise you will turn into a hivemind.

I would say nay. These days everything has an agenda. All news is bias and tbh not much can be trusted these days. They are for sure purposefully spreading misinformation or even concealing real information by putting it before or after a big ticket item that will guarantee be more discussed then what actually 'matters'. We see that quite often here.
There will first briefly discuss that f.e taxes go up by 10% and right after it Kids gets brutally murdered! exclusief content! blababla

It depends, most of them are politically influenced, there is not a lot of independent journalists I think

I always double check on other sources what I read / watch

I know that a lot of stuff is politically influenced, and it really depends on what newssite or what kind of news you look at (I don't really consume any religious news). It also doesn't help that news is related to watch-time and retention and short form, multimedial, clicks, views etc etc, and that makes a lot of news sites just shit (like the Daily Mail is a good example on clickbait).

I think news can never be fully objective, I only think the journalist can do it's best to stay objective. I have seen good initiatives where journalists get space on the page to explain why and how they wrote something. I think that can really help to explain views or information otherwise only knowledgeable by the writer itself.

Bastille you should check out substack. There are loads of independant journalists there! :)

Anything on the Main Stream News is bought and paid for... They are not doing anything to better humanity. They are looking to turn profits thus being news corporations. They are not public service announcements nor funded by the government. Even though most people would automatically assume something like CNN is a government agency telling them what they need to know about the world. Crazy Brainwash it all is...
