Need to bypass iPhone 6s passcode screen - easton - Jun 22, 2025
Short version of the story is, my daughters fiancée suddenly passed away after years together, and she is left with his iPhone 6s and iPad Air. She does not have his 6-digit passkey to unlock the devices, but she would very much like to save the photos and anything else she could remember him by that may be on these items... (that's preferable to recovering/wiping them completely and losing it all).
She asked me to help, and I've looked far and wide and read of apps like Passfab, and 4ukey, and other software that supposedly can get past the lock screens. But each one seems to rely on recovery mode and ultimately wipes all data before upgrading the OS. Not what we want..
So, I'm here to ask if someone knows of any method or software, or any way to get into these devices without losing all the data first?
(If she can recall his ID or any other necessary details, then Apple Support might be an option... but it sounds like that could take quite a while if it even works. So hopefully there's a faster way to do it ourselves.)

Are you sure that Passfab iPhone Unlocker requires DFU/factory reset? Their website claims no data loss. Even though the 6s is very old, Apple has a long support life cycle, so the phone could be updated as high as iOS 15. The filesystem will be fully encrypted with the encryption key stored in the secure enclave. It can be exploited, but I couldn't do it. Elcomsoft iOS Forensic Toolkit can't even unlock any iPhone after the 5c.

Oh, Magnet Axiom can do it, but you'd have a better chance of going to an Apple Store to get it unlocked.

Just search on Youtube it's actually extremely easy to bypass about any phone.

17 years on HF, and you call this "extremely easy?" There are $70-100k bounties on these exploits, and a simply YouTube search is all one needs?

With following a 5 minute guide on Youtube it is extremely easy people find new exploits all the time.

Oh, here's one. "How To Factory Reset Screen Locked iPhone 4/5/6/7/8/X/Xr/11/12/13 Without Pc & iTunes ! Erase iPhone" OP wants to retrieve the data. Factory reset is out of the question.
Some videos are just about bypassing iCloud activation locks. Others use DFU. "Fix Unavailable iPhone With Secret Pin Code | How to Unlock iPhone Without Passcode or Apple-ID" might seem like a legit hack, but there's a noticeable edit in the video when the device is unlocked.

Let's see ... Passfab? Covered. There's another factory reset guide. AppGeeker? All it can do without doing a full wipe is recover the "ScreenTime Passcode."
Lockscreen exploits are NOT found all the time, but this USB Restricted Mode exploit should work on that old phone. Not enough to unlock the storage and extract data, however.

Thanks, and I've spent hours going through YT videos and the suggestions there. However, (ignoring all the videos where you tap in a long string of characters (like *#xxxx#*xxxx and magically unlock the phone, none of which have worked), all the programs I've seen in the YT videos that claim to bypass the 4-6 digit lock screen state clearly that it will wipe all data from the device... which is what I'm trying to avoid.
So, still looking for now.

Have you ever tried TunesKit iPhone Unlocker? And as for the data, maybe you can first back up to iTunes, and then use the tool to unlock the iPhone 6s and iPad Air.

ONLY if the phone has previously been connected to iTunes.
