[GUIDE] Social Engineering on Discord The Psychology of Gaining Trust - HerrWinston - Jul 5, 2025

Hello yall, this is my first ever Guide thread, so please let me know what to improve or what to change. But trust me i have experience in this topic!
7 i hope you will have an awesome birthday soon!
Introduction
Most SE guides focus on phishing, exploits, or fake support scams.
But in 2025, the most effective social engineering happens in casual Discord servers — where people hang out, vent, and overshare.

These servers are usually:
  • Friend groups
  • Meme/gaming communities
  • School / regional / chill topics
  • VC-heavy hangouts

The best part?
Nobody expects manipulation here.

This is where trust is cheap — and data is everywhere.

First of all, what do we want?
I will most likely make multiple threads, to cover up every possible thing you would want!
1. Getting Information
2. Getting Access to accounts
3. Do I want influence? (Make someone do something?)
If you don’t know what your endgame is, you’ll slip up fast.

For this Thread we will get going with 1.

If you have a special User already in mind, skip the next step!
1. Find a good Discord Server
Look for Discords with:

1.Open invites (via Disboard or server lists)

2.Light mod activity

3.Voice channels in use

I Personally like smaller ones with anything from 100-1000 members, the bigger the worse after 1k, since they may already have encountered someone like you

2. Make a suitable Persona and start
You want to have an Aged account, either let it sit for 1 month or just buy aged like i did!
Dont choose a weird Username, stay normal nothing like "Gangstersigma69"
Choose a good bio, suiting what you want them to see you as
"Bio: “DMs open | just vibin | night owl" is a good start
Always Remember: You’re not a threat. You’re just someone bored and friendly.

3. Get them to trust you
Forget fake roles.
Here, you're not staff or support — you're just a regular person. The trick is to blend in so naturally that nobody questions you.

Tactics:

Match energy of the group (friendly, sarcastic, chaotic, dry, etc.)

Use normal emojis, memes, slang (don't overdo it)

Lurk before talking — learn the culture

Ask innocent personal questions over time

“You all sound like you’ve known each other forever lol”
“Fr tho where’s everyone from?”

People in casual servers want to bond. You’re giving them that.

Also, i always recommend, go for a persona you are best at, dont try with everything, I love beeing the "funny" one and try to get in touch with owners and admins
dont forget! They give the Roles! (if you want authority, thats the way, which is also a cheatcode for Information Gathering)

Honestly, all that sounds like work, and we dont like work, so i`ve got a little freebie

4.What You Can Extract Without Trying
People in “just chatting” Discords drop:

Full names (when joking or telling stories)

Age, birthday, timezones

Locations (cities, schools, accents, flags)

Photos / face reveals

Screenshots of logins, DMs, or private convos

Emotional vulnerabilities

You don’t need to ask directly.

You just need to be there when they naturally talk.
Some easy information is always good

Now lets get in depth
5. Voice Chat is your best friend!
Voice chat is everything here.

Tips for voice-based SE:

Keep a calm, soft tone

Don’t dominate the convo — let others talk more

Laugh when others laugh. Sound engaged.

Be the “good listener”

Ask:

“So how’d you all even meet?”
“Y’all sound like you’ve been through some drama lmao”

People feel safer after just one chill VC with you.

Also a good way to find out "who you would like to get to know better" ;)

Lets get to No-Go`s.

6. Things to not do!

Don’t be overly curious too soon — that’s creepy

Don’t fake trauma/stories unless you're very good at it

Don’t switch personalities — consistency = trust

Don’t spam links, servers, or sketchy messages

You’re not here to take right away. You’re here to plant and wait.

SE is a waiting game, trust me, the longer you wait and the better you do that, the more insane is the trust they have and amount of info they share

Lets make an example Situation

1. We join a discord server with some members, first 2 days we lurk, see what they do
2. We make a little introduction in the intro channel
3. We start engaging, we dont instantly engage into the jokes, they dont know you yet
4. After a few days, they should trust you now, by that time you should have joined VC atleast once
5. Assuming we found someone we want to get information about for whatever reason we should by now have spoken with them privately
6. Text frequently, stay active in the server too, now try to get information, slowly, ask about the state or city they live in, birthday, hobbies, everything not too in-depth
7.Grow a bond, laugh and share storys (just lie, like i do) in the server, you might have grown a reputation and are known now, maybe also now are a "discord mod"
8. Now you can ask very private questions, once they believe you enough
9. Getting more info is getting easier each day, as a mod you can just make "age verifications" asking for a picture with theyre birth certificate, so you know they
are real!
10. Congrats, now you have everything you need from anyone you want, information Acquired

Final Thoughts
If you're good with words and reading people, Discord is a goldmine.

No coding. No tools. Just emotions, voice, and time.

Real social engineers don’t force anything.
They just make people want to share.

Let me know if you want:

Actual SE message examples

More Discord-specific techniques

Voice scripts / roleplay setups

And keep talking — they’ll trust you before they even know your name. (most still dont know mine)

I will make 2 more threads, going in depth, about how to get people to do what you want and to get access to accounts

But never forget: SE isnt about tools, its about YOU and how you interact with people!

Thread looks good but a little more formatting would make it perfect, try using The Academy Exclusive CSS or the graphic resources from The Academy SF.
