Ever caught a social engineering attempt before it got you? - Err0rX - Jul 12, 2025

You ever been targeted by social engineering? Phishing, impersonation, or some sly play to grab your data?

Here are some examples:
- Fake calls pretending to be from your bank
- Phishing emails asking for passwords
- Someone impersonating a trusted contact to get info

How’d you spot the fake? What moves do you make to stay untouchable?

For example:
Once, someone tried to clone my friend’s account — nearly got in.

Yeah once someone tried Catphishing me on discord, tried getting as much info as possible and after not receiving any, he just blatantly told me he wanted to blackmail me to get him stuff from amazon 🤣

Edit: I forgot to say, he tried impersonating, a friend of a friend, saying he knows "friend" which i later found out wasnt true at all.
Stay safe HF people

Every salesperson is in some way a social engineer. Building rapport, customer psychology, framing their pitch to influence decisions, etc. It’s not manipulation in a malicious sense, but a strategic way to align their product with the buyer’s desires.

Oh yeah I get calls from time to time, you can spot them from a mile away the second you answer the phone.

Yes, fake calls from banks are very common. One of them said that I should update my information in a bank where I am not even a customer.
