Crypto Bill Stumbles in House as Some Republicans Defy Trumps Call - JoseMar - Jul 15, 2025 Crypto Bill Stumbles in House as Some Republicans Defy Trump’s Call ![]() You’d think when a former U.S. president says “get it done”, his party would fall in line, especially on something he’s personally invested in. But crypto has always had a weird way of splitting people, hasn’t it? This week, the House of Representatives had a chance to move forward on a major crypto bill. Actually, three bills. The kind of stuff you'd expect to either quietly pass or blow up the internet. Instead, we got… a procedural faceplant. Trump wanted it. Publicly. Loudly. On Truth Social, he told Republicans to vote yes on the stablecoin legislation, the so-called GENIUS Act. (Yes, that’s what they’re calling it. No irony detected.) But not everyone on his side listened. Some just… didn’t. ![]() Now look, politics is messy. You’ve got backroom deals, hidden interests, last-minute amendments, lobbyists whispering in ears. I get that. But still, if you're pushing hard for crypto legislation, and the crypto crowd is watching, you probably want to avoid losing your own team’s vote. This wasn’t even the final vote on the law. It was a vote on whether to consider the bill in the first place. And at least 13 Republicans broke ranks. That’s not a small number for something the party supposedly lined up behind. ![]() It’s tempting to blame it all on confusion or procedural fatigue. But there’s a bigger story simmering here. Because the GENIUS Act isn’t just a bill about payment stablecoins. It’s now tangled in a web of political, ethical, and even international questions, some of which sound like they came from a Netflix script. Like, let’s talk Trump’s crypto company. Yes, he has one, World Liberty Financial (WLF). They apparently issued their own stablecoin. And that coin? It’s allegedly tied up in a $2 billion investment with some help from Binance and a firm out of Abu Dhabi. Yeah. That’s a lot. And here’s where the whole thing starts to smell weird. If you're the sitting U.S. president, or trying to be again, and you're promoting a bill that might benefit your own stablecoin company... people are going to notice. Especially when that same company got major funding from overseas. ![]() Democrats definitely noticed. They've dubbed this week their “anti-crypto corruption week.” (A bit dramatic, sure, but effective branding.) They’re pushing for changes to the bills, stronger consumer protections, restrictions on lawmakers owning or promoting crypto. Basically trying to close the door before the conflicts of interest really explode. And let’s be honest for a sec… it is weird seeing politicians craft laws for markets they’re personally investing in. Doesn’t mean every bill is shady, but you can’t act surprised when people raise eyebrows. Back to the vote. It might come around again later this week. Speaker Mike Johnson says they’ll try another pass. Maybe things shift. Maybe they don’t. But either way, this wasn’t the smooth crypto victory Trump wanted, or expected. And that says something. Crypto’s not fringe anymore. It’s not something politicians can just toss a few buzzwords at and expect compliance. It's becoming real policy, wrapped in real power, with real consequences. And when that happens, people start picking sides. Sometimes… even against their own. ![]() 💸 Big shoutout to 6 for making this even more exciting😎 Hey guys, check this out.🙂 Mix Undead DamienVC I ɴ ᴄ ʀ ᴇ ᴅ ɪ ʙ ʟ E Binance Jamika Moooookie ![]() So where does that leave us? Honestly, I don’t know. The GENIUS Act still has support. Some of it bipartisan, which is rare enough to pause and appreciate. But the political heat is rising. Trump’s involvement, the financial links, the sudden resistance, all of it complicates what should’ve been a straightforward policy push. Will crypto win the week in Congress? Or will it get buried under ethics probes and campaign drama? I guess we’ll see. One last thought: If crypto is going to find its place in American law, it has to survive moments like this. Messy, unpredictable, uncomfortable moments, where the hype wears off and the politics begin. We’re right there now. RE: Crypto Bill Stumbles in House as Some Republicans Defy Trumps Call - Braco22 - Jul 15, 2025 They'll do a re-vote this or next week and with a few edits they'll pass it. RE: Crypto Bill Stumbles in House as Some Republicans Defy Trumps Call - Omniscient - Jul 15, 2025 This bill didn't ban a CBDC. It was actually a doorway to have one. Which is why some GOP like MTG voted against it. Appreciate you adding that perspective🙂 RE: Crypto Bill Stumbles in House as Some Republicans Defy Trumps Call - Costanza - Jul 16, 2025 Check his truth social the mob spoke , they all agree and will pass tomorrow. |
