Starting My Ethical Hacking Journey | Pentesting Focus + Recent Cyber News [Code-29] - code-29 - Jul 16, 2025

Hey HackForums,

I’m Code-29, a student and passionate learner in the field of Ethical Hacking with a growing interest in penetration testing. This is my very first post here, and I wanted to introduce myself and start by sharing both my learning path and a few updates I’ve been reading about in the world of pentesting and cybersecurity.

🔧 What I’m Learning (Pentesting Focus):

- Basic to advanced reconnaissance techniques

- Vulnerability scanning and manual testing

- Exploitation frameworks like Metasploit

- Web app security (SQLi, XSS, IDOR, CSRF)

- Hands-on practice using TryHackMe, Hack The Box, and DVWA

- Report writing & responsible disclosure ethics

🌐 Recent Pentesting News That Caught My Eye:

- A major RCE vulnerability was recently discovered in a popular enterprise firewall appliance — exploited by attackers in the wild. Shows how important patch management and pentesting are for businesses.

- OWASP Top 10 2025 Draft is being discussed — with updated risk rankings based on modern web threats. Worth checking out if you’re into web app pentesting.

- Penetration testing is increasingly being integrated into AI and IoT security audits, highlighting how the role of pentesters is evolving with tech.

🧭 My Goal:
- To build strong fundamentals and one day work as a certified penetration tester or red team member, helping companies identify weaknesses before malicious actors can exploit them. I’m aiming to eventually go for CEH, eJPT, and OSCP certifications.

🤝 Open to Suggestions:
- If any of you have go-to tools, platforms, or tips for real-world pentesting prep — I’d love to learn from you.
Also open to networking with others on the same path.

Thanks for reading, and excited to be part of this knowledge-driven community!
