What currency does your brain automatically convert money into? - HerrWinston - Jul 19, 2025

Whats a currency your brain automatically changes an amount of money into ?
For example, for me it would either be dollar, "Döner" or Vbucks lol
For example if someone gives me 10€ they give me 1k Vbucks, 11,5$ or 2 Döner

Dollars, which is usually a pain since I'm British and use pounds.

I do both, but for some reason, since growing up around Americans online, I automatically convert anything into both pounds and dollars (I don't really know why, habit i guess)

Well right now it's USD.

I often think about when spending money, comparing the price of the item to hours of my life.
If I spend $300, how many hours of my life am I spending on the object.
Help me stay on budget, lmao.

I am money hungry as well, who isn't in this day and age.

I also think about before buying something. How many hours of fun/happiness is this going to provide for me, or my family.

For me, it's Canadian dollars—without even thinking about it. Being from Canada, I’ve grown up seeing prices in CAD everywhere: on signs, in stores, and online. Whenever I see prices in USD or Euros, my brain immediately starts calculating, trying to figure out what that actually means in Canadian terms. It’s almost automatic, like mental currency conversion is second nature now. I think it's partly because our dollar fluctuates so much, so I'm used to adjusting for value all the time—especially when shopping online or traveling. It's like a built-in survival skill for Canadians.

Dollars, Dollars, and more dollars. USD is the currency of my location, so it's only natural that I convert every amount into dollars. While I've spent some time in other countries, USD will always be my goto currency.
