Suggestion: Add a Giveaway Picker for Contest Threads - Xferno - Jul 30, 2025
Suggestion: Add a Giveaway Picker for Contest Threads
A lot of contests here ask users to reply to enter — but picking a winner manually can get messy or feel biased.
What if the OP could just reply with `[giveaway]` or `[giveaway=3]` and the system automatically picks 1 or more random winners from the thread?
I built a plugin for MyBB that does exactly that:
- Picks random winners fairly
- Highlights the winning post
- Optional PM to winner(s)
- Can auto-lock the thread after
Would be a solid feature for the Contest section or similar areas.
What do you guys think — worth adding?

I think this is actually a great feature to get rid of potential fraudulent contests and would combat bias.

Exactly! That was one of the main goals behind it making contests fair and transparent without extra work.

I can look at your plugin but I kind of doubt it's as extensive as I was gonna build it.

Isn't it just simpler to use the post id? (Roll in convo / any random num generator and you're done.)
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
OP (contest holder) should lock thread and paste results, that's what I use to do.
EDIT: Also, I'd imagine giveaways are minimal or next to worthless, so this doesn't seem too important. Just my opinion.
