President Trump Federalizes D.C. Police - Rionxee - Aug 11, 2025

President Trump invoked Section 740 of the 1973 Home Rule Act, something no president has ever done. Essentially, now there is Federal control over the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.

This is in response to rising crime within Washington D.C. Two nights ago, a violent group of youths gathered in D.C. and caused chaos - similar to what has happened previously this summer. A youth curfew has also been put into effect.

Donald Trump pledges to make D.C. safe again.

I can say personally, D.C. has been very unsafe and I visit frequently. In the last 4 times I have been there, there have been violent attacks on members of the public.

Hmm. If he really oversees this one that maybe safety of the region can be improved.

But still this kind of stuff is a double edged sword. Not often you can just clamp stuff down with just fist. Maintaining peace is hard

I can't hate on this fully, keep in mind I am very well in support of police reform due to corrupt police overstepping their powers and being trigger happy but many states and cities have been pretty damn soft on violent crime, rioting, looting, etc.

It always just gets brushed under the rug, while states tout good progress when in reality it is only very slight improvement over decades.

People should be able to walk these streets and feel safe, people should be able to sleep in their homes with no worries, businesses shouldn't have to worry about closing down due to repetitive looting.

Welp, its just a step closer to martial law. Next thing you know, the military will be at your door for criticizing Isreal.

It means that the federal government has taken control of the police force in DC and it is not longer under the control of the city.

This means the federal government can change/set policies, procedures and crack down on crime that the city government may have been slacking on.

I will say, if there is any police department in need of a serious overhaul it is D.C. Metro. Not only do they have an extremely lax enforcement of the law in the district but they have consistently been mentioned in the news regarding corruption within their ranks.

I was in D.C. when two Israeli embassy staffers were murdered, I was also present for the "youth" takeover of Navy Yard which of course ended in a shooting. I have also been present in D.C. when multiple U.S. government staffers have been attacked.

It is not safe to walk around outside of the U.S. Capitol Grounds - I have only really felt safe walking the grounds of the Capitol building since the police presence is extremely heightened. I'm looking forward to being able to visit and walk freely without worrying about being mugged or worse.

What? ☹️Why hasn't this been major news? Haven't heard anything about it.

Thank you. <3
Remember when everyone was blaming Hillary Clinton for Benghazi?

This is horrifying.

Do you go there often just for visits or other reasons? I never been there id love to one day visit and see the capitol building, white house, library of congress, I know they usually have the declaration of independence on display I would like to see it.

But of course with all of the crime it isn't really a priority on my list until that gets solved.

So, are any of you under a curfew now because of this stuff?
