The “Pick Your Passion” Scam is a big lie in career advice: “Follow your passion” It assumes you have one lifelong passion waiting to be unearthed. Passion without competence is just expensive daydreaming. Early in your career, you explore your career. Later, you exploit it.

That’s just fancy daydreaming without the skills. Early on, we experiment. Later, we dig deep. It’s a messy, real journey,not a slogan to live by.

Generalists build perspective. Specialists build impact. You need both at some point.

If only it was easy as picking your dream career, and everything going perfectly in line with your original dreams. Most people usually dream of being one thing in life, and as they get older and actually get to the stage of choosing what career path they will follow.. it's normally never the same as their original plan. Just gotta ride the wave, and let it take you where it takes you.
