One of the Japanese researchers has isolated proteins from bacteria in sewage. The poop-meat concoction is prepared by extracting the basic elements of food — protein, carbohydrates and fats — and recombining them using so-called "exploder" machine.

The first meat steak from human feces was made by a Japanese scientist Mitsuyuki Ikeda from the Okayama Laboratory in 2011. The main concern with this meat was if it was safe to eat. According to the Live Science, if the meat it cooked, then it supposed to be safe because boiling kills any pathogens that might be present in the meat.

Moreover, poop meat is thought to be not only cheaper in the future with the hopes to save many more people from hunger, but it is also more nutritious and healthier than regular meat we get from consuming animal products. It consists of 63% proteins, 25% carbohydrates, 3% lipids and 9% minerals, according to Digital Trends. The meat is said to taste like beef. Soy protein is also added into the mix to add the flavour and food colouring is used to make the product appear meaty-red.

For those who may argue that poop meat might be a gross idea, think about all the fertilizers that are used for plants which we eat. They contain human excrements that become nutrients and part of the plant itself once it absorbs them.

Some of the sources like Forbes, however, exclaim that shit burgers is a total scam. If you take a look at the video of Ikeda's work, there are couple questioning scenes going on there. First of all, scientist's fridge is labelled as an "unko baga-" (うんこバーガ) or "SHIT BURGER", which is hard to believe that the scientist would use such a simple vocabulary for his work. Also, at the end of the video, Mr. Ikeda enters some building, possibly related to the poop meat laboratory, which name is in fact written in Chinese, not Japanese language. And after all, it is still a mystery why Mitsuyuki Ikeda-san was still not get contacted for an interview after the release of his mind-bending discovery.

Across the globe, livestock spew 14.5 percent of all greenhouse gases (methane, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and fluorinated gases) released in the environment, and over half that comes specifically from cows, according to a United Nations report. The more population rises on Earth each year, the more food we need. Domestic animals, such as cows, are thought to be the main cause of the current ecological pollution, and with the number of people rising on this planet, animal domestication is thus increased too. Therefore, should the media start giving more thorough investigation to this matter? Could this breakthrough of human feces meat be a possible new way of saving our environment by recycling our own human excrements and lowering the number of cows polluting our environment or is it just another absurd scientific scam?
